St. Anthony of Padua Brief Prayer: Behold the Cross of the Lord! Begone you enemy powers. The Lion of the Tribe of Juda, the Root of David has conquered, Alleluia! Dear Friends, Please welcome Father Andrew Windschitl to St. Anthony s. There will be receptions held July 18th and 19th following Masses. Here is a short biography of Fr. Windschitl. At about six years of age I would have told you that I wanted to be a fireman, an astronaut, or a priest. As time went on, the desire to be a priest waned along with my faith. But when St. Pope John Paul II died I reverted, which took place when I was in college, which is statistically the unlikeliest of places for someone to grow in faith. I remember being impressed by his popularity but also understood that he was the vicar of Jesus Christ on earth. Thanks to a Catholic student center on campus, I learned more about the faith and met other young Catholics. Upon returning home from college, I found a young adults group and became more involved at my home parish by attending a rosary prayer group, helping with RCIA, and participating in Christ Renews His Parish. Meanwhile, I worked for a little over three years and dated with the intention of getting married and raising a family. However, through prayer, particularly in adoration, our Blessed Mother seemed to call me to serve her Son in a different way. I was reluctant but said I would give seminary a chance. Now I am ordained to serve Him and His Church as one of His priests. The great joys that come with being a priest are celebration of the Mass and of the sacrament of reconciliation. The greatest act we can do is worship God the way Jesus Christ himself instructed us. Because of this, the Mass deserves to be celebrated with the greatest of care and solemnity. Furthermore, when we celebrate Mass, we draw as close to God as is possible in this life. My personal aim is to celebrate the Mass well, facilitating this kind of relationship with Him for both others and myself. Secondly, I enjoy the responsibility and privilege of making known God's mercy by forgiving us our sins. He is always ready and waiting for us; we need only to humble ourselves and receive the graces that He wants to give us. Know of my prayer for you all. All three training sessions are on a Wednesday night, it includes the 5:30PM Mass. Spanish Baptism Class St. Anthony will be offering a Spanish Baptism Classes. When: The 2nd Thursday of the month. July 9th Where: Lower church Time: 5:30PM Sisters Theresa Letheia Noble a former Atheist and now a member of the Daughters of St. Paul, Is the author of the book The Prodigal You Love Inviting Loved ones Back to the Church. Almost every adult practicing Catholic has at least one person in their life who is away from the Church and the Sacraments. Sister Theresa Noble and Sister Charlotte will be speaking at Christ the King Sunday and Monday July 19 & 20. Call for information. 3 KofC Food Bank Weekend-Please help those in need, July 18th & 19th, by bringing non-perishable food items to benefit the Bidwell Food Bank and cash donations to support the Des Moines Area Religious Council Food Bank. The Knights of Columbus will be at all of the doors before and after each Mass collecting for this worthy cause. A Big THANK YOU to everyone who helped clean the church last time. The next date to clean is July 9am. Please meet in the church. This is a great way to earn service hours. Employment Opportunity Dowling Catholic High School is seeking a theology teacher. The 9-12 grade program is Sun-Thurs, from 8-10pm in the Lower Church. Grades 1-8 begins in the Parish Hall, and runs 9am 3pm Mon- Fri. You do need to bring a sack lunch but we will provide a snack and bottled water! You can register up to the week it begins, but it would be great if you did so as soon as you can, so we can get a count. Thanks, everyone! AROUND THE DIOCESE Respite Night Are you desperate for respite? Let us be your anchor! On Friday, July 10, from 6-9 p.m. the Des Moines region is hosting a respite night for families of children with special needs. Parents will be able to go out on a date while their children are cared for at Courage League Sports, an athletic facility designed for children with special needs. Professional and trained volunteers will be present for children and young adults with special needs and for their siblings. Pre-registration by June 29 is required.
