We are finally heading into spring! I hope you and your family are enjoying the warmer weather. Things are certainly getting busier with sacraments like First Communion, as well as weddings, sports, graduations, picnics, and other activities that need our time and attention. In the center of all of our busy lives is the call to holiness. How can you, me, and our children respond to that call? Pope Francis lovingly counsels us in his latest apostolic exhortation, Rejoice and Be Glad, subtitled the call to holiness in today's world : We are frequently tempted to think that holiness is only for those who can withdraw from ordinary affairs to spend much time in prayer. That is not the case. We are all called to be holy by living our lives with love and by bearing witness in everything we do, wherever we find ourselves. Are you a parent or grandparent? Be holy by patiently teaching the little ones how to follow Jesus. This holiness to which the Lord calls you will grow through small gestures. (14,16) In our busy lives making the time and effort for prayer can certainly be a challenge. Where could we start, as a family, through small gestures? First, make the commitment to pray together as you start your day. This may be difficult because of everyone's schedules. But could you commit to be present however possible, by cell phone or video call, just for a minute while you pray? Second, use your own prayer, a written prayer such as the morning offering, or this short prayer to start your day together: Dear Jesus, In everything we say and everything we do, in everything today may it glorify you. Amen. Finally, as your young ones get used to praying with you, let them lead it! Leading the prayer will make them feel special and honored. Notice their faith and confidence grow. Let me know your experiences, challenges, and blessings you experience in praying together this week! Prayer is most precious, for it nourishes a daily commitment to love. ANTHONY S NEWS & EVENTS FIRST FRIDAY FATIMA MASS WHAT: First Friday Fatima Mass WHEN: Friday May 4th TIME: 7:00PM WHERE: St. Anthony Church Followed by procession of the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Join us for a visit with the Blessed Mother and Her Divine Son. Catholic Tuition Organization Families can apply in our second round for tuition assistance through the Catholic Tuition Organization. The deadline is July 31. Families will be notified of their award before the start of school. Please note the change of times for the Altar & Rosary Sunday, May 6 th 8:00 am Mass. We will pray the rosary together in the pews in the front of church beginning at 7:30 am. Following that we will meet in the elevator foyer to receive flowers & process in for the crowning of Mary. The Mass Intention will be for Mary Sitroneto, Frances Salvato and all living & deceased members of the Society. After Mass we will all meet in the Parish Hall for our annual May Breakfast. This will include the installation of officers for the year. They are President Michelle Fournier, Vice President Ellen Celsi, Secretary Donis Corigliano and Treasurer Sue Augustin. Our esteemed guest speaker will be Sister Marie Hesed who had the honor of serving with Saint Mother Theresa. Tickets are limited and remain at $7.00 each. You can purchase them after Mass, in the Parish office or reserve them online at: For those who volunteered to provide treats for the Mother Son dance Saturday, May 19 th please bring them to the Parish Hall after 4pm. Reminder there will not be a monthly meeting during the summer months. The following Sun. at 11:00 AM on Mediacom channels: 17, 84, or We have been informed by the Des Moines police department that we need to start observing the no parking & handicap signs in front of the church on Indianola Ave. These no parking areas are 7 days a week. On the church side of Indianola the handicap parking is from the no parking sign to the east only. We have been told by the police that people who park in those areas maybe be towed. So please, when you part in Indianola Rd., make sure you are not in the no parking area. 4. April 29, 2018 Please Pray for: KofC Food Bank Weekend-Please help those in need, May 19th & 20th, by bringing non-perish-able food items to benefit the Bidwell Food Bank and cash donations to support the Des Moines Area Religious Council Food Bank. The Knights of Columbus will be at all of the doors before and after each Mass collecting for this worthy cause. A Big THANK YOU to everyone who helped clean the church last time. 5 From Msgr. Frank Chiodo Friends, Please welcome Ms. Jennifer Raes, our new school principal. Her term begins in July, when Dr. Cordaro officially retires. She is with us today and will be available for a meet and greet after each Mass in the parish lower church. Please greet her and extend a warm St. Anthony welcome to our new principal. At the May breakfast, our Altar & Rosary Society will install their new officers. We warmly applaud Fran Ali, the outgoing president. Fran has done an outstanding job as president, and has worked very well coordinating the many important activities of our Altar Society. The new president is Michelle Fournier. We welcome Michelle and extend our best wishes and support for the task ahead. She brings many talents to the task, and we look forward as she builds on the foundation of the great past presidents of the Altar and Rosary Society. Thanks to Fran. Welcome Michelle. I would like to announce the appointment of Mr. Joe Graziano to our Foundation Board. Joe brings many talents to our board and we are grateful for his willingness to serve with the other members of our foundation team.
