The scripture reading says, A voice of one crying out in the desert: Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be made low. The winding roads shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth, and all flesh shall see the salvation of God. We are in a preparation time for the coming of our Savior and King. It should be exciting but Christmas tends to be a time of busy activity that while we know Jesus is the reason for the season, it ends up that our busy lives can take over and our thoughts become more about buying stuff and doing all that needs to be done rather than a focus on His coming a spiritual walk. Advent devolves into a trap of worldly things rather than a spiritual awakening to prepare the way of the Lord. So, how can a busy schedule get revised to spend more time in prayer and reflection? Without this, it is too easy to fall prey to the traps of the world. Maybe try this it has worked for me: 1. Get up a little earlier for morning prayer, and do the Angeles at 6am. Then do the readings of the day found in the St. Anthony App BTW it really is a great App. If you can, take time to read the reflections and watch a short video. 2. Then, right before bed, reflect on scripture, thank the Lord, and be sure to repent. 3. Finally, give an hour each week in front of the to pray for family, the Church and anything the Lord lays on your heart. These three things, though they take just a little time, bear great fruit. Also, if there are still copies left, be sure to pick up the Advent Reflections booklet, by Word on Fire, located in entrances of the Church. Then, I hope you remember to pray the Angelus each day. It is such a beautiful and important prayer being said by the St. Anthony faith community. May you enjoy this beautiful season of Advent, as we prayerfully prepare for Christmas. ANTHONY S NEWS & EVENTS FIRST FRIDAY FATIMA MASS WHAT: First Friday Fatima Mass WHEN: Friday January 5th TIME: 7:00PM WHERE: St. Anthony Church Followed by procession of the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Join us for a visit with the Blessed Mother and Her Divine Son. Adult choir rehearsals for the Christmas and New Years Masses will be Monday, December 10th & December 17th. Interested parishioners and encouraged and invited to attend. The St. Vincent depaul Society at St. Anthony is asking for your help. Each year our group distributes approximately 50 food baskets to families in need at Thanksgiving and Christmas time. St. Vincent kindly asks for any contribution that you may be able to give to help. Please label your contribution for the turkey fund. 5 From Msgr. Frank Chiodo Friends: Make the crooked ways straight. These words from the bible remind us of the importance of examining our lives this advent. Are there areas in my life that have been detouring me, leading me away from God? Have I allowed distractions in life to keep me from focusing on what really matters, namely, my relationship to Christ? I want to encourage you to make a good confession this advent. It is the best way to examine the crooked ways in our lives and to ask the Lord to straighten us out to lead us on a sure path to Him. Plan now to join us on Dec. 22nd at 9am, Saturday for your Christmas rendezvous with the Redeemer. We will have several priests here for confessions. I will be seeing my confessor this Monday for my monthly confession. I need it. Notice the new violet altar frontal and covering cloth? It was donated in memory of Rosella Beener by her daughter Margaret. May she rest in peace. Thanks Margaret, it is beautiful -a fitting memorial to a wonderful faith filled woman. Blessings, INFORMATION NEEDED ABOUT MARK ANTHONY DELMEGE. Mark attended St. Anthony s Grade School and Dowling High School in Des Moines, Iowa. At age 26 in 1983 he was working at the Park Avenue Pub on the south side of Des Moines. We are looking for fellow students, friends, acquaintances that socialized, knew of, spoke to Mark in the year of Mark planned a 7 to 10 day trip to Las Vegas that spring with a friend leaving his parrot with someone. Please be advised that your acquaintance who was working at the Park Avenue Pub in 1983 left for a 10 day trip to Las Vegas with a friend. Research over the years has revealed that the companion he traveled with returned to Des Moines and Mark's remains were found in Mesa County Colorado. Did you know thru real estate business, being a classmate or thru meeting Mark at the Park Avenue Pub be aware of his immediate friends who might know of the travelling companions name? Most important we need to know the identity of the person Mark travelled with who is a male. Also does anyone remember who Mark left his parrot with?
