Because they pray so little. Why do most Christians see so few brought out of darkness to light by their ministry? Because they pray so little. Why are our churches simply not on fire for God? Because there is so little real prayer. If there are any regrets in heaven, the greatest will be that we spent so little time in real intercession while we were on earth. To be little with God in prayer is to be little for God in service. We may rest assured of this: A Man s influence in the world can be gauged not by his eloquence, or his zeal, or his orthodoxy, or his energy, but by his prayers. Yes, and we will go further and maintain that no man or woman can live aright who does not pray aright. We may be assured of this: The secret of all failure is our failure in secret prayer. ~ The Kneeling Christian, by Albert Richardson. I ran across this book, which has transformed my prayer life, and which, I highly recommend. It may encourage you to pray more. To increase prayer may not seem like a big deal until you realize that without it, your spiritual life will be dry and wanting. Consider how often the Lord went off to pray. You can download it onto your electronic device as a PDF--for free. It is available in paperback as well but not for free. Lent is just around the corner, so please also mark your calendar to attend or share with your friends about a presentation coming on the Devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus, Saturday, March 2 nd at the 8:30 AM Mass. In preparation of Lent, St. Anthony is hosting a special presentation on the Devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus. The Holy Face of Jesus devotion is a work of reparation to bring us into a deeper personal relationship with Our Lord. (The presentation is the Saturday just prior to Shrove Tuesday.) 5 From Msgr. Frank Chiodo My Dear People of God, I am currently leading a pilgrimage in Italy, but I want to announce that Fr. Dan Gehler is being appointed Pastor of St. Joseph s Parish in Earling, Iowa and St. Peter s Parish in Definance, Iowa effective Feb. 28th. Fr. Guthrie Dolan is being appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Anthony effective the same date. I know I speak on behalf of all of our parish family when I thank Fr. Dan for the outstanding job he has done over the past two and a half years. His steady, faithful, competent and service oriented ministry has touched us all deeply. He will be missed. Please remember to thank Fr. Dan personally and pray for him as he assumes the well deserved role of Pastor. We welcome Fr. Dolan back to our parish. He was with us five years ago, and is returning to help us here in the months ahead. He is very familiar with our parish, its culture and traditions. He will fit in well.
