His coming gave us a new way to orient our lives. Every aspect can be handed over to Him to direct. Rather than being the god of our own lives, which I do not recommend, we can put Christ as our center, savior and leader. The star to navigate our direction our compass. When Jesus comes into our lives, everything should change. Pleasing him and doing the Will of the Father is all that matters. All things can now find their place in respect to Him. Rather than stuff, money, activity as our focus of Christmas, let it be the birth of Christ--the new beginning. This is where we find real joy and peace. Let us meditate on what the birth of Christ means to us. How amazing it is that God became flesh for us. How great that he invites us to inherit His Kingdom and to be part of His family. Wow. May your Christmas be centered on Christ and may your hearts be in love with the living Word. Oh, one more thing I hope you check out the new Catholic study program coming Jan 8 th 6:30pm 8:00pm in the lower church. Conversion --Following the Call of Christ. Presented by Word on Fire; Bishop Robert Barron illuminates six biblical stories of conversion, demonstrating how six ordinary people, just like you, were met by Jesus where they were and called to a better life through him. A St. Anthony tradition which spans the decades. During the procession at the beginning of Mass, the star proceeds down the church aisle from the loft to the crib, highlighting the trek taken by the shepherds and the three kings. A lovely tradition of our great parish. 5 From Msgr. Frank Chiodo A Blessed fourth week of Advent to all; We now approach the final days of Advent and the celebration of the Christmas Feast. This is a wonderful opportunity to invite friends and relatives to Christmas Mass with you, especially those who have been away from the practice of the faith. Welcome them home to St. Anthony and assure them that they are an important part of our parish family and are integral to our on going life together. Remind them of the Mass times for the weekends and encourage them to return regularly to our parish home. Please refer to the Christmas Mass schedule in your bulletin. There are seven celebrations of Mass for the feast, and so ample opportunity for all of us to worship the newborn King. On Christmas morning the 9:30AM Mass is a High Mass in Latin of the Ancient Usage. It is a beautiful expression of our faith and accents the timelessness of our Catholic faith and the treasure of the Eucharistic Sacrifice as celebrated through many centuries of observance. All of the Masses, of course, are special and Solemn at Christmas, so whatever Mass you come to remember we are celebrating the Crib and the Cross A God who loves us enough to humble Himself to be born in a crib, and who is merciful enough to die on a cross for our salvation. On my behalf and on behalf of Fr. Gehler, Fr. Reynaldo, our Deacons, parish staff and school administration, teachers and school staff to you and yours a blessed and Merry Christmas and Grace filled New Year. Dowling Catholic High School Incoming Freshmen Placement Test Saturday, January 5, :45 a.m Noon Dowling Catholic High School will be administering the Incoming Freshman Placement Test on Saturday, January 5, 2019, from 7:45 a.m. 12 Noon. Students interested in enrolling at Dowling Catholic should take the test. The test does not determine admissions, but is used to identify the level of classes that will allow the student to be successful in high school. Parochial school students are automatically registered to take the test. Non-parochial school students should contact the Admissions Office by Tuesday, January 1 st to register for the exam. Students unable to take the exam should contact the Admissions Office to register for the make-up.
