I would like to begin this week s column with a prayer from Pope Francis from the Joy Gospel: Star new evangelization, help us to bear radiant witness to communion, service, ardent and generous faith, justice and love poor, that the joy Gospel may reach to the ends earth, illuminating even the fringes of our world. Mother living Gospel, wellspring of happiness for God's little ones, pray for us. Amen. Alleluia! As a parish family we are certainly busy with joy-filled activities! Today was Corpus Christi, our yearly celebration Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, and our famous procession Most through our neighborhood. The parish grotto trip is coming up on June 16. What a way to spend a day as a family in celebrating our faith with mass, prayer, food, and a pilgrimage to the historic West Bend Grotto. Our Spanish families will be enjoying a five-day series of workshops and retreats on love and respect in the family. Our youth are not going to be left out this month! In addition to all these great activities they can partake in with their families, there is a special retreat on Saturday June 9th JUST FOR THEM. Youth ages 9 to 13 are invited to our first Children s retreat of The subject is PRAYER. This half day retreat runs from 11 AM to 3 PM and includes lunch with our Hispanic brothers and sisters. (They are welcome to bring their own food and eat with the main group as well) This retreat will help them learn and develop their relationship with God in the Trinity. They will learn how to say prayers and to pray spontaneously and what the difference is between the two. Some of our topics will include music and prayer, famous places of prayer, prayer in the bible, adoration: hearing God in silence, how to pray together as a family, and how to use the examine in their prayer life. No matter if your children are new to prayer or already have good habits of prayer, there will be something new for them in this retreat. This retreat is no charge but donations towards youth ministry are accepted. Space is limited, so please reserve by this Wednesday June 6th. My contact information is in the bulletin. 3 ST. ANTHONY S NEWS & EVENTS HELP WANTED-St. Anthony Cafeteria The Cafeteria Helper performs tasks in the preparation and service of food to students and staff in the St Anthony School. Hours are Monday through Friday 9:00am through 1:30pm. The Cafeteria Helper: Prepares food with minimum supervision, using standard recipes. Assists in the receipt of orders and supplies. Keeps a simple production record of what we prepare and serve daily. Sets up and breaks down serving lines, using proper sanitation procedures. Cleans kitchen equipment and work area. This includes washing dishes, pots, pans, cafeteria eating areas, and any other general cleaning as needed. Performs other duties as assigned by manager to support the goals Food Service Department Requirements : Ability to lift 40lbs, stand continuously, and engage in moderate physical work. Good overall physical health. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. English competency Ability to work harmoniously with others and demonstrate cheerful professionalism. If interested or would like more information, contact LaRissa Rasmussen Food Service Director at phone number UPCOMING BUS TRIP Your invited to the West Bend Grotto tour with Monsignor Chiodo coming up Saturday June 16 th This is a day trip and a very beautiful pilgrimage of a historic sight in our own backyard here in Iowa. There will be the Divine Mercy Chaplet sung on the way to the Grotto and after we tour the Grotto, we will visit the West Bend Grotto Gift shop where you will receive a Grotto keepsake gift. For lunch we will visit a local restaurant. The cost is $40 per person which does not include lunch. Payment deadline is Friday June 8th. 5 From Msgr. Frank Chiodo My Dear Parishioners, This is a very special weekend; we are celebrating our annual Corpus Christi Eucharistic Procession. I want to thank all who have planned and worked for the success procession this year the organizing team, the songsters, the servers and M.C. s, to those who prepared the beautiful altars at the stations, the Dowling brass, our Hispanic band God Bless and reward you all. I praise God ahead of time for the beautiful day in all ways. O Jesus in the most bless and protect our parish. Amen. Deacon Tom Starbuck s retirement reception will be after the 4:00pm Mass on June 9th and 8:00, 9:30 & 11:00AM Masses on June 10th in the lower church. Stop by and wish him well. Due to the Diocesan Priest Workshop at Conception Abbey, Fr. Dan and I will be away for majority week. The altered Mass schedule is listed below.
