What an exciting month this has been! Our Parish family educational programs are up and running, from PRE for K-8 grades, confirmation including the essentials class, the Word on Fire bible studies for adults, RCIA in both English and Spanish, and our new parent classes during PRE each week. Not to mention ongoing programs such as Roses of Mary and CRHP. You and I are blessed to be present in one of the greatest periods of education this Parish has ever seen! There are programs for all age ranges from the littlest of the little to the most senior among us. We are learning together about our faith, the Bible, our Church, and how to deepen our relationship with our Creator. I hope you are finding time to be part of this great educational effort, either as a participant or as a teacher or volunteer. I wanted to focus this week on what is upcoming in our Parish in the next six weeks. Youth group - It s time! One of the most frequent questions I receive is when is middle school youth group going to start back up? Middle school youth group will soft launch next week on Sunday September 30. I would like to try a time change this year from 5-7 to 6-8 so as to include all of the Parish youth, including those from Latin Mass. Youth group is held in the youth room down the hall from the adoration chapel for grades 6-8. We meet for two hours. Our format is going to be: opening Prayer in the adoration chapel, hearing a reading from the bible (this year we will be listening to a Catholic dramatization of the Gospel according to Mark - the action Gospel), and a discussion of one or more saints, followed by open time which could be an activity, games, a movie, or whatever else we come up with! Sacramental Prep grades Receiving the sacraments of reconciliation and communion are essential steps towards full initiation into our Catholic faith. Our plan for youth in these non-traditional grades this year is to: 1) provide faith formation support by attendance in the PRE program to educate them in the basics of the faith, and 2) provide a series of retreats to educate and guide them in what they need to be able to receive the sacraments. I have selected the curriculum for this program and am identifying the number of students, which in turn points us to which location we need to use as well as when we can host these educational periods. These programs will start in October. Volunteers are urgently needed to help with these very important programs! Please pray for our Parish college students! College is often a challenging faith time for our youth, and some are struggling with maintaining their Catholic identity. When they return home, please pray together, attend Mass, and consider going to reconciliation as a family. We don t want to lose them! Remind them of the love Christ has for them, and show them how much you love them too. Many sports are starting for the year. Don t forget that even though the family may be away for sports, a faithful Catholic parent will ensure the family attends Mass. At times it will mean the family has to be creative and plan ahead of time, but haven t you already done that to make sure you are there at the game? Take the extra step in loving Jesus and be resolved not to sin by not missing a single Mass. 5 From Msgr. Frank Chiodo My Dear Parishioners, This weekend I am in Washington D.C. visiting a priest who is in a special program in the D.C area. Fr. Higgins and I will be together. Back Monday. Great to see the bible study off to such a great start. Want to thank Donna Haney for facilitating the program. As St. Jerome put it: ignorance of scripture is ignorance of Christ. The weather was great, the turn-out impressive, and the proceeds exceeded last year s at our second annual golf outing and mini golf. A huge thanks to Jim and Terri O Donnell and the Knights for another great fun and fund raising day. A lot of work went in to hosting the event and making it a success once again. Blessings to Jim and his team. Bingo last week was a great success. A huge turnout. Thanks to the team of volunteers for working the event. True St. Anthony team work in evidence once again. Blessings to them too. This Wednesday we will host a special visit from Fr. Chad Ripperger who is the exorcist for the Archdiocese of Denver. He will celebrate the 5:30 Mass in the extraordinary form, in Latin. On Wednesday at 5pm he will be presenting a brief explanation of the ancient form of the celebration of Mass. Join us.
