It was a wonderful time and we were so happy with the turnout. I should say also, that Ned Chiodo is the bocce champion! Wow, you could tell he and Monsignor have played a few times! We did a bunch of live recording and pics on Facebook, if you haven t seen it yet, take a look. So what will be happening next? Well, we ve got a couple of things planned for August. As many of you know, we gather all summer on Sunday evenings at 6, for the rosary at the grotto. During August and September, we will gather first in the lower rectory conference room at 5:15, to view a great series of short films called, Queen of Heaven: Mary s Battle for Souls, loaned to us from parishioner Tom Hanson. After the movie, we will pray the rosary at the grotto. Also in August, we will be having a movie night at the grotto, with, The Shack, on the evening of Saturday the 26 th. Like we ve done in the past, we will provide popcorn and a nice area for everyone to bring their lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the evening. July 16, 2017 AROUND THE DIOCESE CENTRAL IOWA CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN GUILD OF ORGANIST IS LOOKING FOR PIANO PLAYERS Our executive board has been discussing ways to reach out to youth and adults who play the piano and who would like to learn to play the organ for their churches. It would include referrals to certified instructors, or even college/university faulty, at a cost agreed upon between the student and the instructor. The intent is not for interested person to become master musicians, but rather for them to feel some confidence in playing hymns and voluntaries, and accompanying a choir. 5 From Msgr. Frank Chiodo Parishioners, A big Thank You to the Community Council for hosting the brats and bocce ball event that was held last Sat. July 8th. There was a nice turn out and fun was had by all. There are many more events that are being planned by the Community Council. Please watch for more details to come on those events. Please pass the word about our upcoming Fall Festival Celebration Sept. 15,16,17th. It promises to be bigger and better than ever. The committee is working hard -some new events are on the horizon, mini golf for young and old, a big golf outing both at Blank Golf Course. Big time Bingo on Friday a wine and cheese party with entertainment on Saturday. Soccer games on Saturday afternoon. Sunday with Mass at the grotto, pulled pork picnic and games for the kids -our raffle drawing. Plan to come/and bring a friend. Thanks to our hardworking committee. Got a birthday card from the bishop the other day. He said, Thanks ever so much for leading the revival of St. Anthony: Good things are happening in our parish. And it s not due to me alone. WE are on the march into a brighter future. Our parish numbers have grown by 1000 households since 07 -we are now close to 2000 registered households.. Our parish has opened its heart and home to our Hispanic brothers and sisters. Spiritual renewal is happening our First Friday evening procession and Mass is growing, Daily Mass attendance continues to be a sign of spiritual renewal. Our Christ Renews His Parish retreats draw many to the well spring of spiritual renewal. Our new teen group continues to grow. Our plans for a young adult group -all these and more are what the bishop is referring to. Praise God for His work. Thanks for working with me for the revival of this great parish.
