Be sure to attend the open houses and events that will be held during the week. Magnificat Readers It is time to get a new or renew your subscription to the Magnificat. Cost will be $30 again this year. We will need to have a minimum of 40 people order to get the Magnificat for that price. Fanning the Flame Registration is open for the Feb. 10 retreat Fanning the Flame, a day of prayer, reflection and fellowship oriented toward identifying the movements of the Holy Spirit in our lives. AROUND THE DIOCESE Iowa Catholic Radio invites all ladies to the next Ladies MOSAIC Luncheon on Thursday February 8, 11:30AM-1:00PM, at St. Mary of Nazareth Church. Engage your faith, meet new friends, and learn about services in your community. This luncheon s featured speaker is Cindy Shaw of Emmaus House, a diocesan ministry established in the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola to help people - like the travelers on the road to Emmaus - recognize and act upon their "burning hearts" and desire for a deeper relationship with God. "Were Our Hearts Not Burning?" will be Cindy's theme as she offers an overview of Ignatian spirituality and the ministries and history of Emmaus House. 5 From Msgr. Frank Chiodo Friends, This weekend is Respect Life weekend. Tens of thousands faithful souls will be gathering in Washington DC for the annual March for Life. While we won t be there, we can all observe the weekend by renewing our personal commitment to the value of every human being from womb to tomb. Pope John Paul referred to the culture of death that seems to be growing in our society today. Death was conquered by the Savior on the Cross -let s look at a cross in a new way this weekend and beyond. And pray: O LIFE GIVING LORD, YOU CONQUERED SIN AND DEATH ON THE CROSS. PIERCE MY HEART AND MIND WITH THE TRUTH ABOUT THE PRICELESS VALUE OF EVERY HUMAN BEING NO MATTER THE AGE OR CONDITION. I LIFT MY EYES TO YOUR IMAGE ON THE CROSS. CONQUER THE CULTURE OF DEATH BY YOUR GRACE POURING FORTH FROM YOUR WOUNDS ON THE CROSS. LOOK DOWN ON US, SINFUL AND SORROWFUL SOULS AND CONVERT THE HARDENED SOULS SO THAT THEY TOO MIGHT LOOK UPON EVERY PERSON UNBORN OR BORN THROUGH YOUR MERCIFUL AND LOVING EYES. AMEN.
