Following is a great explanation of Christmas, which I found on usccb.org. Check out the printable Christmas calendar and other helpful resources! Christmas is one most important days Church year, second only to Easter itself. It is the feast incarnation, the feast of God becoming flesh (the Latin "in carne" means "enfleshment"). It is a uniquely Christian teaching, the Divine choosing to become one of us. Because of this belief, God is not only Transcendent, but also wholly Immanent, Emmanuel (God-with-us). While remaining Transcendent (meaning we must rise above our present condition to reach Him), He is at the same time Immanent (meaning He is with us as we rise toward Him). Every Eucharist is like Christmas where the bread and wine are transformed into His flesh, His Body and Blood, and, in a sense, He is born anew on the altar. The liturgical season of Christmas begins with the vigil Masses on Christmas Eve and concludes on the Feast Baptism Lord. During this season, we celebrate the birth of Christ into our world and into our hearts, and reflect on the gift of salvation that is born with him including the fact that he was born to die for us. The Christmas tree and the Nativity scene are popular symbols season and a tradition in many Christian homes. It is also traditional to exchange Christmas gifts with family and friends as a way to honor God the Father's gift of his only son to the world. Having received the gift of Christ, we naturally want to pass that gift along to our loved ones. 2. December 25, 2016

You can put your money in an envelope to the attention of Stephanie and drop it in the collection basket. All money should be turned in by Jan. 16th t. The Nativity Crew wishes to thank everyone who helped with set up and decorated the Nativity. Dowling Catholic High School Incoming Freshmen Placement Test Saturday, January 7, :45 a.m. 12 Noon Dowling Catholic High School will be administering the Incoming Freshman Placement Test on Saturday, January 7th from 7:45 a.m. 12 Noon. Students interested in enrolling at Dowling Catholic should take the test. The test does not determine admissions, but is used to identify the level of classes that will allow the student to be successful in high school. Parochial school students are automatically registered to take the test. Non-parochial school students should contact the Admissions Office by Tuesday, January 3rd to register for the test. Students unable to take the test should contact the Admissions Office to register for the makeup. We thank all of you who sent cards, gifts, cookies and special treats for Christmas. The priests are especially grateful. Thank you to those who helped decorate the church and the parish hall for our Christmas liturgies. Also, thank you to all who helped decorate the grotto for this Christmas season. The decorations brought beauty to our sacred spaces. A special welcome to our visitors this Christmas season. We want you to know that Saint Anthony parish is known for its warmth and hospitality. We invite you to return. If you are looking for a parish to call home, this is a perfect fit for this is a family parish.
