WELCOME NEW PARISHIONERS St. Jane de Chantal Parish welcomes those who have recently registered in our parish. If you attend Mass at St. Jane Frances de Chantal regularly, we encourage you to register as a member. Please complete a registration form and drop it in the collection basket when you attend Mass. MEN S FIRST SATURDAY FELLOWSHIP St. Jane de Chantal men s ministry is open to parish men of all ages, and will focus on fellowship, prayer, and team building. They will meet the first Saturday of each month, except for September; the first meeting will be held on September 10. Light breakfast and fellowship at 6:30 am in Caulfield Hall, followed by lecture and group discussion 7:00-8:00 am. For more information, contact Tim Gleeson at TV MONITOR IN CHILDREN S QUIET ROOM Over the summer, a new feature was added to our church. For the benefit of our parents and guests with young children, a television monitor has been installed in the Children's Quiet Room located in the Narthex. In addition, a video camera, focused on the alter, will allow those occupying this area a way to fully participate in the Mass without obstruction. We hope that you find this feature useful. CHILDREN S CHOIR We are in the beginning phases of forming a Parish Children s Choir for students in grades 4-8. If your son or daughter would be interested in this opportunity, russell.weismann@stjanedechantal.org. PARISH CHOIR The Saint Jane Frances de Chantal Parish Choir resumes this month! Come and be a part of this special experience in the life of our church. Rehearsals are on Thursday TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME evenings at 8:00 pm, and the choir sings weekly at the Sunday 10:00 am Mass. The first rehearsal is Thursday, September 8. New Members are always welcome. Prior choral experience is helpful, but not necessary. HANDBELL ENSEMBLE Ring out your joy and give glory to God with our Parish Handbell Ensemble! The Handbell Ensemble rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:00-7:45 pm and rings usually once per month during a weekend Mass. Experience with reading music at a basic level is recommended, but not necessary. We will teach you all of the basics! FAMILY CHOIR Our parish s Family Choir specializes in offering contemporary music for the Sunday 5:00 pm Mass. The choir rehearses at 4:00 pm on Sundays, just prior to Mass, and features singers and instrumentalists. No prior choral experience is necessary and instrumentalists who are able to play at an intermediate level are encouraged to join, as well. The Family Choir returns on September 18. Young adults are especially encouraged to join this group. USHERS NEEDED We are in need of additional ushers at the Sunday 12 noon Mass. If you are able to assist with this important ministry, call the parish office. IN OUR FAITH FORMATION PROGRAMS Visit the Faith Formation page at for information on the various programs, registration forms and calendars. TEACHERS NEEDED IN CCD PRE-K Teachers are needed in our Pre-K 3 and 4 year old program, which meets Sunday mornings during the 10:00 am Mass starting September 25. I am looking for six teachers who could commit to teaching once a month. If interested, please contact Sally Daniel at sally.daniel@stjanedechantal.org or GRADES K-8 CCD REGISTRATION Registration for CCD continues; register online at stjanedechantal.org/faith-formation/religious-ed-k-8/register. The opening session will take place Tuesday, September 13. Classes meet Tuesdays, 4:30-5:45 pm for grades K-5; Tuesdays, 7:00-8:15 pm for grades 6-8; and Sundays during the 10:00 am Mass for pre-k ages 3 and 4 (FOOT). SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION REGISTRATION First Communion and confirmation classes are forming. If you have a child who is in a private Catholic school and will be receiving a sacrament, contact the Seton Center at sally.daniel@stjanedechantal.org or to register your child. There is a separate process for registering a child for sacramental preparation. HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH MINISTRY All high school students are invited to the first SMASH

3 (Sunday Mass and Social Hour) on Sunday, September 11. Attend the 5:00 pm Mass, then come to the Seton Center from 6:00 to 8:00 pm for a BBQ, to play some games, and to get to know one another and learn more about the upcoming events for high school youth ministry. All high school students no matter where you go to school are welcome to attend. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA) Thinking about becoming a Catholic? Interested in completing your sacraments? St. Jane's RCIA program is designed you! RCIA meets on Wednesday evenings at the Seton Center, starting September 14. The program begins with an opportunity to learn more about the Catholic faith, ask questions, and get acquainted with other people like you whose spiritual journeys are leading them toward full communion with the Catholic Church. The initial sessions will set the stage for the formal process of Christian initiation that begins later in this fall. But this is a period of inquiry, and there is no obligation to continue if you find you are not quite ready. We encourage you to join us! ADULT ED: HISTORY AND THE CHURCH The ongoing History and the Church series returns this Fall on Tuesdays, 7:00-9:00 pm, beginning September 27 at the Seton Center. This year's material, "Religions of the Axial Age," focuses on the pivotal pre-christian period between 800 to 200 BC. Learn about contextual factors that influenced development of world religions, including our Catholic faith. There will be twelve discussion-group sessions and some supplementary reading assignments. ADULT ED: BIBLICAL WALK THROUGH THE MASS In his video-based study, The Biblical Walk Through the Mass, Dr. Edward Sri explores the roots of the words and gestures we experience at Mass and explains their profound significance. In this study, we will come to know and understand the Mass as never before, leading us to a richer, more fruitful worship experience. The Biblical Walk Through The Mass will begin the last week of September and continue for four more weeks. The class will be offered twice on Thursdays (September 29, and October 6, 13, 20, and 27), at 9:00 am in the Seton Center and 7:30 pm in Caulfield Hall. The class will also be offered on Saturdays (October 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29) at 9:00 am in Caulfield Hall. YOUNG ADULT MASS & PIZZA SOCIAL All young adults are invited to the third Sunday of the month YAF Mass and Pizza Social on September 18. Join us at the 5:00 pm Mass; look for the reserved sign on the pews in the section in front of the cry room. After Mass, all are invited to Caulfield Hall to enjoy pizza, drinks, and fellowship. This week we welcomed back hundreds of families to begin a new school year at St. Jane de Chantal School. There were new backpacks, lunch boxes, and many smiles as students paraded in on Monday to shake hands with our principal, Mrs. Hamilton, and meet their new teachers. Our week concluded with flip flops, a half-day, and the last long weekend of summer. FISH THEME Each year, the school chooses a theme to guide us to live a more Catholic lifestyle, and strengthen our relationships as a community. This year s theme is The Fish Philosophy. There are four main parts to this philosophy to encourage a positive school environment: Choose your attitude, Be there, Make their day, and Play. Teachers and students will be striving to live out the Fish Philosophy this school year to foster a Christ-like environment for all to flourish. NEW TEACHER Welcome Ian MacInnes! Our new seventh grade teacher, Mr. MacInnes, recently moved back to the area from Los Angeles to pursue a teaching career at St. Jane de Chantal. Mr. MacInnes is a former De Chantal student, who is very excited to be back at De Chantal teaching seventh grade homeroom classes, and junior high math. TERESA OF KOLKATA Blessed Mother Teresa of Kolkata will be canonized at the Vatican on September 4. The canonization will be held during the Sunday Mass celebrated as part of the Jubilee for workers and volunteers of mercy. A Mass of Thanksgiving for the Canonization of Saint Teresa of Kolkata will be celebrated at the Basilica of the National Shrine (400 Michigan Ave., N.E.) on Sunday, September 11, at 12:00 noon. All are invited to join the Missionaries of Charity in commemorating St. Teresa s canonization. Both the Mass of Canonization and the Mass of Thanksgiving will be televised on EWTN; visit advances.asp for the schedule. ARCHDIOCESAN MEN S CONFERENCE The annual archdiocesan men s conference will take place Saturday, September 17, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, at Sacred Heart Church (201 St. Mary s Ave., La Plata).
