2 MAY 26, 2013 IN OUR PARISH CONGRATULATION FR. BERNARD Fr. Bernard Timothy, O.P., who served as a deacon here at St. Jane de Chantal for the last two years, was ordained to the priesthood with five other Dominicans this past Friday, May 24, at St. Dominic s Church. Fr. Bernard will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving here at St. Jane this Sunday, May 26, at 10:00 am. A reception will follow the Mass in Caulfield Hall. All are invited to the Mass and reception. MEMORIAL DAY MASS Monday, May 27, is Memorial Day, a federal holiday. The only Mass at St. Jane will be celebrated at 8:00 am. The parish office will be closed. T-BALL The St. Jane de Chantal CYO is once again sponsoring coeducational, intramural T-Ball (kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade) this Spring. Opening night ceremonies were May 3. Andrew Lennon and Kate McLaughlin sang The Star -Spangled Banner and Mrs. Hamilton threw out the first pitch. The games are on Friday evenings here at St. Jane on our side field. Emphasis is on instruction, fun and a family atmosphere, including hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, and sodas on sale. No need to cook dinner! All St. Jane students and children of parishioners are welcome! Participation fee is $ Uniforms will be provided. CYO FALL 2013 SOCCER REGISTRATION Registration for 2013 CYO FALL Sports now open through the online SportsPilot CYO registration system. Varsity and JV (grades 5-8) registration must be completed prior to evaluations; late fees begin June 6. Rookie and Cadet (grades 1-4) registration closes July 15; late fees begin SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY June 15. The registration link and more information can be found at Fall 2013 Soccer Evaluation Schedule for Junior Varsity girls and Junior Varsity boys (rising grades 5 and 6): JV girls on May 28 and 29, 5:00-6:30 pm; JV boys on May 28 and 29, 6:30-8:00 pm; all at Montrose ES (12301 Academy Way, Rockville, off Parklawn, north of Randolph Rd). For Varsity girls and Varsity boys (rising grades 7 and 8): Varsity girls on June 6 and 7, 5:00-6:30 pm; Varsity boys on June 6 and 7, 6:30 8:00 pm; all at Montrose ES (12301 Academy Way, Rockville, off Parklawn, north of Randolph Rd). To be considered for placement on an "A" team, it is recommended to attend both sessions. A player must attend one of the evaluation sessions. There will be call back and or rain date evaluations on June 10 and 11, if necessary. Grades 5-8 evaluations for Fall soccer and all other CYO sports are conducted in accord with archdiocesan CYO guidelines, which can be found under t h e T e a m S e l e c t i o n P r o c e s s l i n k a t This process emphasizes team selection based on skill levels. We urge all parents to support this process and to encourage their children to participate on the St. Jane CYO team for which they are selected. Evaluation sessions are not held for 1st and 2nd graders, as they will be placed onto evenly divided teams. Registrations for fall soccer will be accepted on a spaceavailable basis, but a $30.00 late fee may apply to any registration not completed by June 6. Then they will take a break for the summer and resume on September 7. CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION Our annual Corpus Christi Procession will take place Sunday, June 2, at the 12:00 pm Mass. We will celebrate Mass and then after Communion we will process to the altar While you are on vacation this summer... please remember that your parish expenses continue, rain or shine, and that we need your offerings in order to meet these expenses. If you miss any envelopes this summer, please bring your contributions up to date. An easy way to support our parish offertory and the maintenance collection is to enroll in Faith Direct. Members of this year s first Communion class dressed in their communion outfits and the Junior Sodality are invited to join in the procession This is an opportunity to show publicly our belief in the Real Presence of Christ. HOLY HOUR FOR VOCATIONS From 8:30 to 10:45 am on Friday, June 7, join your fellow parishioners in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament for the intentions of the men being ordained to the priesthood on June 15, and for an increase in vocations to the priesthood. CONCERT SERIES The Apollo Chamber Orchestra will present their next concert of the Concert and Arts Series on Friday, June 7, at 7:30 pm in church. They will be joined by Washington National Opera's Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program baritone, Javier Arrey. They will perform Rimsky- Korsakoff s Russian Easter Overture, Dvorak s Biblical Songs, Why Do the Nations So Furiously Rage? from Handel s Messiah, and Shostakovich s Symphony No. 5. The concert is free and open to the public. Free will offerings will be accepted; proceeds will benefit St. Martin s Cloak. A reception will follow in Caulfield Hall. Everyone is welcome. For more information, contact Henry Bauer at PIPE ORGAN INSTALLATION The Lively-Fulcher Pipe Organ is scheduled to be installed beginning Monday, June 10. Final voicing (adjusting the sound the pipes make) will take place in the Fall. Weekday Masses during the weeks of June and June will be held in Caulfield Hall. FIRE LANES In the coming weeks, the curbs along the circular driveway at the main entrance to our parish property will be painted red and marked Fire Lane. No parking will be permitted along these curbs so fire and rescue crews can access to the property in case of an emergency. REMEMBER IN PRAYER... those who are sick, and all those in our nursing homes and hospitals, especially Isabelle Fitzpatrick. IN OUR FAITH FORMATION PROGRAMS Visit the Faith Formation page at for information on the various programs, registration forms and calendars FAITH FORMATION REGISTRATION Registration for next year s Faith Formation classes will take place after all Masses this weekend, May 18/19. There are sessions for children ages 3 through high school. Registration forms can also be found at under the Faith Formation link. FOOT (Faith of Our Toddlers) for ages 3 and 4 meet during the 10:00 am Mass on Sunday mornings; grades K-5 meet Tuesday afternoons, 4:15 5:30 pm; grades 6 8 meet Tuesday evenings, 7:00 8:15 pm; and high school meets Monday nights, 7:00 9:00 pm. Nominate yourself or another high school student to be on the youth board. Be in charge of planning, organizing, recruiting, training, and budgeting the activities, events, and programs for high school youth. YOUTH MINISTRY INTERNS Opportunities for young adults interested in serving high school age youth of the parish are available. Background check required. Call or the Youth Ministry Office. HIGH SCHOOL LECTORS & USHERS High school students are encouraged to sign up to be a lector or an usher for the Sunday 5:00 pm Mass. SMASH Please join the youth group next Sunday, June 2 at 5:00 pm for the youth Mass and at 6:00 pm for dinner, games, and fellowship. IN OUR BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL Check out the St. Jane de Chantal School website at to get information on admissions, see what each classroom is studying, and more. GRANDPARENT S DAY The children at St. Jane De Chantal School invited their grandparents to spend the morning on May 13. Everyone celebrated Mass together and enjoyed our 2nd grade close the Mass with a song they sang and signed at their first Holy Communion. Following coffee and treats, the grandparents visited their grandchildren in their classrooms where they enjoyed going back to grade school. In the afternoon, the grandparents were invited back for a fabulous school band concert under the direction of Mrs. Jennifer Tifford. Grandparent s Day is a wonderful tradition at St. Jane De Chantal School.

4 MAY 26, 2013 CAMDEN YARDS The 4th grade had a fabulous field trip to Camden Yards for the Baltimore Orioles Field Trip Day. Our day started with a presentation about weather by meteorologists from one of the Baltimore TV stations and a launch of a weather balloon, and the head groundskeeper talked about how weather affects what she does at the ballpark. We then got to stay for the baseball game against the San Diego Padres. WHO LET THE DOGS OUT? Which homeroom will be our top dogs? The May U.S. National Math Contest on Sumdog has begun. Sumdog's free educational computer games motivate students to practice math and play educational games against others worldwide. Stay tuned to see which homeroom will be our new winners. MEMORIAL DAY AT CATHOLIC CEMETERIES This Memorial Day, come pray in loving memory of family, friends, and fellow citizens who have given their lives for our freedom. WELCOME HOME REENTRY PROGRAM Each year approximately 20,000 people return home after being released from incarceration here in the Archdiocese of Washington. Most of these men and women face insurmountable barriers in finding employment, finding housing, and receiving treatment for substance abuse and other medical needs. The Welcome Home Reentry Program, an initiative of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington, is seeking mentors to help them support recently released individuals. STEWARDSHIP Today s psalm reminds us that we have been crowned with glory and honor and given rule over the works of God s hands. But we must be good stewards, for the Lord will surely hold us accountable for the use of those gifts! SECOND COLLECTION: MAINTENANCE The second collection next weekend, June 1/2, is our monthly collection to help with the repair and maintenance of our parish facilities. Recent and upcoming projects include repairing an air leak in the sprinkler system in the church ($2,000), repairing a leaking pump in the air conditioning unit in Christopher Hall ($3,000), and contracting for five additional speed bumps around the parish property ($5,000). POOR BOX The Poor Box next weekend, June 1/2, will benefit the Monsignor Christopher Fund, which provides need-based scholarships to our parish school.
