Please complete a registration form and drop it in the collection basket when you attend Mass. SNOW POLICY FOR WEEKDAY MASSES If the Federal Government is closed due to inclement weather, St. Jane de Chantal will not hold either the 8:00 am nor the 11:00 am weekday Masses. Please stay safe at home, and allow our snow removal crews to clear and treat our parking lots and walkways. If the Federal Government is opening on a delayed schedule, we will hold both the 8:00 am and 11:00 am Masses. ADVENT GIVING TREE The Advent Giving Tree program, sponsored by the St. Jane de Chantal Sodality, begins this weekend, November 24/25. Ornament gift tags will be hung on trees in the gathering space of church. Each tag indicates a gift request from one of the charitable organizations we support; there will be a chart on the digital board listing the charities, the people they serve, and which color/shape tag goes with each charity. Take a tag from one of the trees and return the gift in a gift bag, with the tag attached. Gifts will be collected only during the Saturday vigil and Sunday Masses the weekends of December 1/2 and December 8/9. Gifts should not be left in the church during the week. If you must leave a gift early, please deliver it to the parish office. Giving Tree questions: Denise Sintetos (sintetos@msn.com ) and Colleen Hadigan YOUNG ADULT FELLOWSHIP: CREDIBLE CATHOLIC SERIES Come join us for our Fall spiritual series! We will be studying and discussing the Credible Catholic series. Through engaging presentations, the series looks to debunk several secular "myths" which drive many away from the Catholic Church. The fourth session, "Proof of Jesus' Resurrection and Divinity," will be held in Caulfield Hall at 7:30 pm on Monday, November 26. ADVENT WREATH WORKSHOP Begin Advent by bringing your family and friends together to learn about the Advent wreath and to make a fresh wreath of your own to take home! Register for one of the two workshops to be offered on Sunday, December 2 in Caulfield Hall: at 1:00 pm or 2:30 pm. For $25, you will receive instructions and all of the materials you need to create your own Advent wreath. This is a fun and festive event. All are welcome! NICHOLAS On Sunday, December 18 after the 10:00 am Mass, children ages 2 10 are invited to join in for a visit from St. Nicholas during the coffee and donuts social in Caulfield Hall. A story will be read to them about St. Nicholas, and there may possibly be a visit from St. Nicholas, the saint. PILGRIMAGE WITH FR. BURNEY Fr. Keith Burney will be leading a pilgrimage to France, "Following the Footsteps of St. Jane Frances de Chantal and St. Francis de Sales," from June 12-21, For more information, and to register for this trip, visit REMEMBER IN PRAYER... those who are sick, and all those in our nursing homes and hospitals, especially John and Pat Krisko. For over five years our parish has had the blessing of the music and liturgical ministry of Russell Weismann. Each Sunday we have had the opportunity to hear this nationally recognized organist bring us incredible and inspirational music from the parish organ, and to listen to our choir which he has brought to a level rarely achieved at the parish level. Besides his leadership in the music department, Russell has been an invaluable member of the parish staff. His ministry to families planning funeral services and couples planning weddings has been exemplary. So has the artistic eye he brought to decorating the church for feasts and other celebrations. He will be greatly missed, but, at the same time, we will look forward to hearing more about him and his achievements in the years to come. On a related note, a committee of members of the parish choirs has been working with me to select and interview candidates for the music ministry director position, many of whom have impressive résumés. HIGH SCHOOL TEEN GROUP: NAILED IT Have you seen the show Nailed It!? Come join the high school teen group on Sunday, December 2 for our own version of Nailed It! We will meet down at the Seton Center for SMASH following the 5:00 pm Mass. Dinner at 6:00 pm, followed by our Nailed It competition. We will meet until 8:00 pm. Any high school teen is welcome to attend. HIGH SCHOOL TEEN GROUP: RETREAT On Sunday, December 9 from 1:00-8:00 pm, the teen group will participate in a mid-year retreat here at the parish. All teens are welcome to come as we explore the Works of Mercy. Come with your helping hands, and an open heart and mind. Meet at the Seton Center starting at 1:00 pm. We will attend the 5:00 pm Mass together. ARCHDIOCESAN TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM Current school families interested in tuition assistance for the school year must apply through the Archdiocese of Washington financial aid link with TADS. SEASON FOR HEALING One of the ways that the Archdiocese of Washington is continuing to accompany survivors is to offer a One-Day Retreat for Survivors. This One-Day Retreat for Survivors is an opportunity for survivors to reflect on God s plan for their lives, healing, and prayer. This day is not therapeutic in nature nor an opportunity for professional counseling, rather it is a day centered on Christ and prayer. The retreat will take place December 1, from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm at a local retreat center. To protect the privacy of those attending the day, the location will not be publicized. There is a brief registration questionnaire; once you complete the questionnaire, ADW staff will personally contact you to discuss further details of the day. CHRISTMAS DINNER FOR THOSE IN NEED The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception will provide meals for hundreds of poor, homeless, elderly, and needy individuals living in the District of Columbia and surrounding areas on Christmas Day. More than one thousand Christmas dinners are served each year in the National Shrine Cafeteria and another thousand are delivered to shut-ins. Volunteers are needed to fill many different positions. Since 1952, the Archdiocese of Washington has produced a weekly televised Mass for those who are homebound, broadcast from the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. It is a wonderful ministry for those members of our Catholic family who are unable to be physically present with a local worshiping community for the Sunday Eucharistic Liturgy. The Mass airs every Sunday at 10:30 am on WDCW-50; no cable, Dish or DIRECTV subscribers: Ch. 50; Comcast: Ch. 23 in Washington, DC and Montgomery County, Ch. 3 in Prince George's County and Southern Maryland; RCN: Ch 15; Verizon: Ch. 3. WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE ON TV? Join the congregation at a taping of the TV Mass! Your presence at the TV Mass is a wonderful way to bring the Mass to those who are homebound. SOLEMNITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE JOIN THE CATHOLIC ADVOCACY NETWORK Maryland's General Assembly session starts in just two months (January 9) and the Maryland Catholic Conference is encouraging anyone who wants to stay informed and get involved on important Catholic issues to sign up for the Catholic Advocacy Network. A constitutional amendment on abortion will be introduced in 2019, as well as other important bills on physician-assisted suicide, fetal homicide, immigration, human trafficking, education funding. The Conference's Catholic Advocacy Network uses and a simple online system to alert you when action is needed and give you the tools to quickly and easily send a message directly to your legislators. To join, visit MEN S DISCERNMENT RETREAT WEEKEND The Archdiocese of Washington invites young men (college aged through 40s) who are considering a call to the priesthood to attend a discernment retreat led by priests and seminarians of the Archdiocese of Washington. The retreat will be held Friday, February 1 - Sunday, February 3, at the Washington Retreat House and St. John Paul II Seminary (145 Taylor St., NE).
