WELCOME NEW PARISHIONERS St. Jane de Chantal Parish welcomes those who have recently registered in our parish. If you attend Mass at St. Jane Frances de Chantal regularly, we encourage you to register as a member. Please complete a registration form and drop it in the collection basket when you attend Mass. SECURITY ON OUR PARISH CAMPUS We remind parishioners and visitors to keep a watchful eye on your surroundings while on our parish campus. This is especially important this time of year as daylight hours shorten. Remember to lock car doors, and remove personal belongings and valuables from plain view in your car; take them with you or store them in your trunk. We also ask you to report any unusual or suspicious activity immediately to a priest or member of staff. NO 12:00 NOON MASS ON DECEMBER 24 In order to give us time to prepare our church for Christmas Masses, there will be no 12:00 noon Mass next Sunday, December 24. Masses for the Fourth Sunday of Advent will be celebrated only at 5:00 pm Saturday (Vigil), Sunday, and 10:00 am Sunday. VISIT FROM ST. NICHOLAS All children are invited to join in our annual visit from St. Nicholas at the coffee and donut social this Sunday, December 17, after the 10:00 am Mass. A story will be read, and maybe, even a visit from St. Nicholas. CARPOOLING WITH CHRIST "Carpooling with Christ," a holy hour with Eucharistic Adoration, will take place each Wednesday of Advent from 2:00 2:45 pm in the church. All parishioners are welcome to come in for a few minutes of prayer, or to stay the entire time! PRO-LIFE TEDDY BEAR BANKS Did your blue Birthright teddy bear miss the final call for drop-off? If so, call Lisa Tennant ( ) to arrange for pick-up. THE GOSPEL STORY ON CHRISTMAS EVE All children ages 5 11 are invited to join in acting out the Christmas Gospel during the 4:00 pm Christmas Eve Masses to be held in both the church and in the gym. If your child would be interested in participating, contact Sally Daniel at sally.daniel@stjanedechantal.org or We will need lots of angels and shepherds, as well as Mary and Joseph and some animals at both 4:00 pm Masses in the gym and in the church. Practice will take place on Saturday, December 23, at 9:30 am in the church. YOUNG ADULT FELLOWSHIP The Young Adult Fellowship is for 20 and 30 somethings, single or married, who would like to get more involved in our parish community. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES IN MUSIC MINISTRY We have several openings for volunteer singers in our Parish Choir and Cantor Guild. Our Parish Choir is accepting new Soprano, Tenor, and Bass volunteer singers. While the ability to read music is not essential, prior choral singing experience is helpful. Our Parish Choir is often credited for their impressive ministry and we welcome your participation! The Cantor Guild consists of our parish cantors. We have openings for cantors at all Masses. HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH MINISTRY All high school students will meet this Sunday, December 17, to watch a movie at 6:00 pm, and go to Lessons and Carols for those who wish to go at 7:30 pm. CHOIR SINGS AT THE BASILICA On December 8, the St. Jane de Chantal School choir, led by Mrs. Morales, was invited to sing at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in honor of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. This was an exciting way for our choir to share their exceptional singing

4 DECEMBER 17, 2017 skills with area Catholics at a Mass during Advent. Our choir was joined by another local Catholic school as they sang a beautiful Ave Maria. SPREADING CHRISTMAS CHEER The sixth and seventh grade students made over 100 Christmas cards for soldiers who are away from their families at Christmas. They were donated to Mission Barbeque in Rockville, who distributed the cards to members of our Armed Forces at Walter Reed Medical Center. Next year we hope to expand the project to involve the whole school. OPEN HOUSE Our winter Open House will be held Monday, January 29, 2018, from 9:00 am to. If you are interested in enrolling children for the School Year, plan to visit during the January Open House. All classrooms pre-k to grade 8 will be open; this is a fantastic opportunity to meet teachers and parents. JOIN THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS The Knights of Columbus, Rock Creek Council, will hold a 1st degree initiation on Tuesday, December 19, at 7:00 pm, followed by a 2nd degree ceremony at 8:00 pm, at its mansion, 5417 W Cedar Lane in Bethesda. Come join other Catholic men looking for fun, fellowship, and helping others. Dues are only $50 a year. For more information, contact Jim Bergmann at jamesbergmann@verizon.net or ATTENTION CPAS AND TAX LAWYERS This upcoming tax return season, Catholic Charities is managing an IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program at Catholic University s Columbus School of Law. CPAs and tax lawyers are needed to provide pro bono tax preparation for the working poor. Training will be provided in January for all interested volunteers.
