Carillon de Westminster, Op. 54 No Louis Vierne ( ) MUSIC & LITURGY NOTES This weekend, we welcome our new hymnals into the pews. It is difficult to believe that these books will journey with us in faith for the next 15 years - until the year 2030! I am humbled by the outpouring of generosity from our parishioners in purchasing the new books. By your contributions, every book has been paid for and offered in the name of a loved one. We want to make sure that these books truly do last us until 2030, thus, a few tips: 1. Please do not remove the books from the church. Someone sacrificed to buy that book. If you would like your own hymnal, please let me know and I can show you how to purchase one. 2. The hymnals are not toys. The books, at $20 a piece, are not toys to occupy the minds of children during Mass. Once a page is torn or a binding broken, the book will need to be replaced. 3. Please do not write in the books. They are for everyone to use. 4. Use the hymnal frequently during Mass the prayers are found on the front cover, the Gloria on the back cover, and everything else in between. This is your worship guide. When finished, please place it back into the hymnal rack. (cont.)
2 JANUARY 11, 2015 Lastly, I want to thank everyone involved in the process of selecting the new hymnal Fr. Giese for his support of the project, the members representing different liturgical ministries who, last spring discerned which hymnal to obtain, the many benefactors who paid for the hymnals, and the dozens of volunteers who helped to put the new hymnals into the pews. For many, this project was a labor of love for the parish. I hope that your faith will be inspired by the texts and music found in new hymnal and that you will never be afraid or timid to sing and to lift up your voice to our Living God. Russell. IN OUR PARISH WELCOME NEW PARISHIONERS St. Jane de Chantal Parish welcomes those who have recently registered in our parish: Ana Varela If you attend Mass at St. Jane Frances de Chantal regularly, we encourage you to register as a member. Please complete a registration form and drop it in the collection basket the next time you attend Mass. THAT MAN IS YOU The Spring semester begins Saturday, January 17 in Caulfield Hall. Light breakfast and fellowship from 6:00-6:30 am followed by program material and discussion from 6:30-7:30 am. If you are looking to deepen your relationship with God, to be a better husband, to become a more loving father, to build friendships with other like-minded men, and are seeking to be the best man you can be, then join us for That Man is You! (TMIY), a program designed for actively parenting fathers. It is never too late to start the program. The topic for January 17 will be What Must I Do. For more information, contact Tim Gleeson at PIZZA & DONUT SOCIALS All parishioners are invited to share pizza and drinks in Caulfield Hall after the 5:00 pm Mass next Saturday, January 17, and coffee, donuts, and friendship after the 8:00 am, 10:00 am, and 12 noon Masses next Sunday, January 18. The featured organization this month is the Knights of Columbus. Representatives will be available to discuss how Knights have the opportunity to become involved in the council's charitable, faith-based, and social programs. The Youth Group will be taking donations at the Sunday coffee to benefit a local charity. SACRED HEART PARISH FOOD PANTRY Even though the Christmas season has come to a close, the need for your generosity remains. During the winter months the less fortunate in our area often have to choose between spending on groceries and paying their utility bills. The food pantry at Shrine of the Sacred Heart serves these people. They depend on your continued generosity. Please remember to bring non-perishables to Mass and leave them in the basket in the gathering space of church. REMEMBER IN PRAYER As we begin a new year, we also begin a new sick list. If you would like a name added to the list, call the parish office at those who are sick, and all those in our nursing homes and hospitals, especially Pat Krisko and Betty Hannan.... those who have died, especially Maggie debettencourt. IN OUR LITURGY & MUSIC MINISTRIES HELP TAKE DOWN THE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS We are looking for volunteers to help take down the Christmas decorations on Monday, January 12 after the 11:00 am Mass. To sign up, Russell at russell.weismann@stjanedechantal.org or call the parish office. Thanks! OLD HYMNALS AVAILABLE If you would like one of the old Ritual Song hymnals that have been in use in our parish, you are welcome to take one home with you. They are on two tables downstairs in Caulfield Hall. One table has hymnals with donor nameplates in them (for those who wish to find the hymnal that they originally donated), and another table with hymnals without nameplates. All remaining hymnals will either be given to a church in need dropped off at a recycling facility. It speaks of the extraordinary gift of salvation that Jesus has won for us, and how we can unite ourselves to Christ s redeeming sacrifice. In the new study by Jeff Cavins, learn what it means to have this filial relationship with God the Father, how He honors us as His children, and how we must honor Him as our loving Father. Cost is $25.00 for the study materials. Please register by January 20 so that materials can be ordered on time.
