Light breakfast and fellowship from 6:00-6:30 am followed by program material and discussion from 6:30-7:30 am. It is never too TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME late to start the program. The topic for October 25 will be Attaining Clarity of Thought. For more information, contact Tim Gleeson at ALL SOULS DAY The Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed (All Souls Day) takes place on Sunday, November 2. Since this Feast Day is a Solemnity, when it falls on a Sunday, it takes precedence over the regular Sunday in Ordinary Time. (November 1, the Solemnity of All Saints, is not a Holy Day of Obligation this year because it falls on a Saturday). St. Jane s Parish will celebrate a special service of Solemn Vespers for the Commemoration of all of the Faithful Departed on Sunday, November 2 at 3:30 pm. Praying Vespers (part of the Liturgy of the Hours/Divine Office) is an ancient tradition of the Church that, together with the Mass, constitutes the Church s public prayer life. The origins of this service date back to our Jewish roots when it was common for worshippers to recite different prayers at certain hours during the day. Priests are canonically required to pray the Liturgy of the Hours, and after the Second Vatican Council, much emphasis was placed on laity to pray the Hours, as well. We especially invite all family members and friends of deceased who were buried from St. Jane s this past year to attend this liturgy. A special candle with the name of their deceased loved one will be lit and distributed during the service. The service will be preceded by a 30-minute organ recital by our Assistant Music Director, Andrew Vu, beginning at 3:00 pm. SODALITY COMMUNION BREAKFAST The Sodality will be inducting new members during the 10:00 am Mass on Sunday, November 2. Following the Mass, Sodality invites all parishioners to celebrate the induction at our annual Communion Breakfast. This year s dynamic speaker will be Melissa Overmyer. She is the founder of the Georgetown Women s Bible Study Group and has been teaching the Bible for over 25 years. Mrs. Overmyer was also on the Board of Walking with Purpose, a Catholic women s Scripture study program, and has just finished writing a book called Metamorphosis of a Soul. The cost of this catered event is $25.00 per person. To RSVP $18,000 Needed WORSHIP - Fourth Edition Fundraising for our new hymnals continues this week. Additional donor nameplate flyers can be found on the tables at the entrance of the church. Thank you for your generous support of this parish-wide project. $9,000 $7,068 to Date Please remember the St. Jane de Chantal School Endowment Fund if you participate in this charitable campaign. The campaign ends December 15.

IN OUR LITURGY & MUSIC MINISTRIES GUEST ORGANIST We welcome Edward Tenant, a young parishioner at St. Jane s to the organ bench at the 10:00 am Mass this weekend. Edward plays a number of musical instruments and has recently begun taking private organ lessons. He will play the prelude to the 10:00 am Mass. Please join me in offering support and gratitude to Edward for sharing his musical talents with us this morning. MUSIC MINISTRY NOTES Have you gotten your flu shot yet? Fr. Giese recently reminded the Parish staff to stay healthy this year by being vaccinated against the flu. Germs spread easily. I encourage you to be courteous to those around you at Mass during the flu season. Some general norms: 1 - Make sure that you wash your hands frequently; 2 - If you are severely ill and are required to stay home, it is not considered sin to miss a Sunday Mass; 3 If you have sneezed or coughed into your hands, it is polite to give a wave or a nod of the head during the sign of peace instead of a handshake; 4 If you feel ill, even just slightly, or have a cold sore, please refrain from drinking from the communal chalice the Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us that receiving only the consecrated host offers us the full Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ; and 5 Please do not dispose of used tissues in the hymnal racks we have several angelic volunteers who frequently clean up the church during the week, and we cannot expect these holy people to dispose of our used tissues for us. Thanks in advance for your efforts keep yourself and those around you healthy during this flu season! PAUL BIBLE STUDY Come study Scripture with other young adults! The Young Adult Fellowship is beginning a six-part Bible study series on St. Paul and the sacraments. Our first meeting will be Tuesday, November 4, at 7:00 pm in the lower room of the Seton Center. We will have handouts with all of the passages, but feel free to bring a Bible. Applications will be available for the 2015 school year. RESPECT LIFE MONTH The victims of this [throwaway] culture are precisely the weakest and most fragile human beings the unborn, the poorest, the sick and elderly, the seriously handicapped, etc. who are in danger of being thrown away, expelled from a system that must be efficient at all costs. [...] It is necessary to raise awareness and form the lay faithful, in whatever state, especially those engaged in the field of politics, so that they may think in accord with the Gospel and the social doctrine of the church and act consistently by dialoguing and collaborating with those who, in sincerity and intellectual honesty, share if not the faith at least a similar vision of mankind and society and its ethical consequences. Pope Francis, speech to a delegation from the Dignitatis Humanae Institute Dec. 7, 2013
