PASTORAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS The Pastoral Council advises and assists the pastor in achieving the goals of the parish. The Pastoral Council does not implement programs which are the responsibility of the parish staff or parish organizations, but instead addresses issues that fall outside their purview. Some current matters in which the Pastoral Council is involved include: assisting in social justice initiatives; enhancing the communication of parish activities and needs through a variety of outlets; planning for upcoming parish celebrations; and, developing our evangelization programs. The Pastoral Council consists of 15 members, five of whom are elected each year for three-year terms. It also includes the School Principal, the Director of Faith Formation, and the heads or representatives of the Sodality, Finance Council, Home and School Association, School Board, and CYO. We will end the season of Lent with a special presentation of Living Stations by the eighth grade on Tuesday, April 11. GEOGRAPHIC BEE St. Jane de Chantal s Geographic Bee champion, Timothy Shaheen, has qualified for the Maryland Geographic Bee on March 31. Around three million students in almost 10,000 schools across the country have participated in their school bees and taken the qualifying test to participate in the state competition, but only a few thousand make it to the state level. Congratulations to Timothy for making it to the next round and representing De Chantal. TALENT SHOW The 2016 Winter Talent Show was held on March 2. Music ranged from Broadway to Vivaldi as performers from second through eighth grade sang, danced, and played the violin and piano. Dozens of acts wowed the audience, which included students, faculty, parents, and guests. Earlier, members of the eighth grade Talent Show Committee had interviewed the performers. Eighth grade presenters shared the personal musical experiences and song selections of each performer before each act. We have a very talented De Chantal community. The Pharisees were more resistant to His message, spending their time and energy to disprove the miracle. Which am I more like, the man born blind or the Pharisees? SECOND COLLECTION: MAINTENANCE The second collection next weekend, April 1/2, is our monthly collection to help keep up with winter expenses, like snow and ice removal, higher utility bills, extra cleaning, and repairs to weather-related damage to buildings and hardscapes. POOR BOX The Poor Box next weekend, April 1/2, will benefit the Monsignor Christopher Fund, which provides need-based scholarship to our parish school.

CH Our lives are sometimes similar to that of the blind man who opened himself to the light, who opened himself to God, who opened himself to his grace. Sometimes unfortunately they are similar to that of the doctors of the law: from the height of our pride we judge others, and even the Lord! Today, we are invited to open ourselves to the light of Christ in order to bear fruit in our lives, to eliminate unchristian behaviours.
