Are you a baptized Catholic but need to complete the sacraments of initiation (Eucharist and/or confirmation)? Come be part of the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) where you will learn (or continue to grow in) the Catholic faith and prepare for the sacraments. The Fair offers an excellent opportunity to learn about the many ways you can share your time and talent through participation in the many ministries of our parish: Worship and Spiritual Growth, Education, Faith Formation and Evangelization, Family and Vocations, Parish Life, and Social Concerns. LITURGICAL MINISTRIES TRAINING Do you have an interest in becoming a Lector, Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, or an Usher? Upcoming training sessions are scheduled for all existing liturgical ministers and those wishing to become a liturgical minister. Lectors will meet on Saturday, September 21 from 9:00-11:00 am in the church, and Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist and Ushers will meet on Saturday, September 28 from 9:00-11:00 am in the church. Current liturgical ministers are asked to attend their respective ministry session. RUN FOR VOCATIONS The St. Jane de Chantal Run for Vocations Team is happy to welcome Fr. Mark Cusick, who will be running the 10K race with us on October 27. 2 AUGUST 25, 2013 IN OUR MUSIC MINISTRY Our Parish Music Ministry is looking for new volunteers. Please consider joining one of the following ensembles. Being a music minister provides a wonderful opportunity to serve your parish, serve others, and, according to research, live a healthy life! ADULT CHOIR The Adult Choir ministers during the Sunday 10:00 am Mass, and rehearses on Thursday evenings from 8:00-10:00 pm, beginning September 5. High School students are welcome and encouraged to sign up. The choir sings from an eclectic repertoire and offers a unique enhancement to the liturgy. CONTEMPORARY ENSEMBLE The Contemporary Ensemble is looking for new singers and instrumentalists to provide music for the Sunday 5:00 pm Mass. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 8:00-9:30 pm, starting September 4. High school and college students are especially encouraged to sign up. If you play an instrument (keyboard, saxophone, flute, guitar, etc.), this group is for you! HANDBELL CHOIR The Handbell Choir is looking for new ringers. Adults and youth (grades 6-12) are eligible to join this ensemble. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7:45 pm, beginning September 4. CANTORS Our parish relies on cantors to lead congregational song and to proclaim the psalm. The ability to read music is not necessary and training is provided. This ministry is especially suited to those who would like to be involved in a music ministry, but are not able to commit to a weekly rehearsal. IN OUR FAITH FORMATION PROGRAMS Visit the Faith Formation page at for information on the various programs, registration forms and calendars FAITH FORMATION REGISTRATION Registration for next year s Faith Formation classes (ages 3 through high school) is ongoing. Registration forms can be picked up at the Seton Center, or found at under the Faith Formation link. FOOT (Faith of Our Toddlers) for ages 3 and 4 meet during the 10:00 am Mass on Sunday mornings; grades K-5 meet Tuesday afternoons, 4:15 5:30 pm; grades 6 8 meet Tuesday evenings, 7:00 8:15 pm; and high school meets Monday nights, 7:00 9:00 pm. Right now, SPRED is a group of adult children with special needs and is looking for new students. FAITH FORMATION VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED Volunteers are still needed in Faith Formation for the following positions: Tuesday afternoons from 4:15pm 5:30pm, babysitter for children of catechists younger than 5; Sunday mornings during the 10:00am Mass, teachers for 3 and 4 year olds (once a month); and adults to volunteer in the High School Youth Ministry program. ADULT FAITH FORMATION: LIVING CATHOLIC Living Catholic is an on-line learning experience on the basic tenants of our faith with a focus on the New Evangelization. The interactive learning experience of Living Catholic blends videos, text, discussions, games, and activities to teach the four sections of the Catechism of the Catholic Church to help us focus on deepening our relationship with Jesus Christ in the context of prayer and learning, growing in a common vision of what Catholics believe, and being part of the New Evangelization. The opening session will be held in Caulfield Hall on Sunday, September 8 from 1:30 3:30 pm. ADULT FAITH FORMATION: HISTORY & THE CHURCH The ongoing History and the Church series returns this Fall on Thursdays, 7:00-9:00 pm, at the Seton Center. This year's topic is part 2 of "Europe and Civilization in the Modern Age," focusing on the twentieth century. There will be assigned readings and 24 discussion group sessions beginning September 12. Cost for the course is $ BIBLE STUDY: ACTS OF THE APOSTLES The Acts of the Apostles is more than a history of the first Christians; it is an incredible story of the power of the Holy

3 Spirit. In Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom, you will witness how the Apostles, through the power of the Holy Spirit, continued the saving mission of Christ on earth. You will see how the Kingdom of God is truly among us in the Holy Church established by Christ, and you will come to a greater appreciation for the entire Catholic faith. DC PADRES BASEBALL The DC Padres, a baseball team consisting entirely of Catholic priests and seminarians, are playing the varsity baseball team of Bishop McNamara High School on Sunday, August 25, around 4:30 pm, at the Bowie Bay Sox Stadium in a 7-inning game of full-on fast pitch hardball. This is a unique apostolate to raise interest and awareness about the great vocation to the Catholic priesthood. More information and tickets are available at ELECTING A NEW POPE: ENTERING THE CONCLAVE The Blessed John Paul II Shrine (3900 Harewood Rd., NE) opened a new exhibit dedicated to the election of Pope Francis. Habemus Papam: The Journey from Conclave to Pope. The exhibit provides visitors with a unique experience of physically walking through the election of the new pope. The visitor will witness highlights of the pontificate of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, walk through the doors of the Sistine Chapel into the Conclave, and proceed into the new pontificate of Pope Francis. Some highlights of the exhibit are materials from the Conclave used by Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington. Included is his first photo with Pope Francis, extra ballots to be used had the Conclave continued, the pen he used to vote, the Conclave schedule, and so much more. Also included in the exhibit are five zucchetti worn by past popes including Benedict XVI, Blessed John Paul II, Paul VI, Pius XII, and Pius XI. PARENTAL AND SPOUSAL BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP St. Elizabeth Bereavement Ministry will offer an eight-week bereavement support group series for adults who have experienced the death of a parent, spouse, or significant other.
