2 Twenty Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 30, 2018 What if is how Deacon Tom ended his homily last weekend, What if and he then he offered us a few intense questions to answer, What if we FORGIVE like the Father forgives; What if we LOVE in the same self-sacrificing way Jesus loves; What if we bring the JOY and HOPE of the Holy Spirit to all those around us? What if? We are always a hopeful people and the Gospel of Mark is very intense in demanding that the followers of Jesus ANSWER him in ways that are both compelling and revealing that we are taking him seriously and we are taking up his way. And today s Gospel is no exception: if there is SOMETHING that s getting in the way of your following me cut it off! [my paraphrase] For to live in Christ is not an option for you and I, because we have been baptized into the life, death and resurrection of Christ and EVERYTHING we are and do comes from God above. There is no way anyone of us can sidestep ourselves away from Christ. The disciples were a bit misguided in who the Christ is. Now, as we continue to walk towards Jerusalem with the Lord, who he is and how we are live will be revealed. Stay the course! The Wild Goose Series took off this past Wednesday and so many eager hearts and minds were present to begin this new Adult Faith Formation Series. We will be presenting 6 of the Series segments in large groups setting over the next several months. The wonderful website THE MINISTRY OF THE WILD GOOSE has all the resources, information and segments available for viewing. It s a powerfully uplifting series so join the parish in the series AND follow-up with the website for a more in-depth growth experience. The Catholic Communications Campaign provides grants to Catholic organizations that share our experience of faith, worship, and witness through social media sites, podcasts, television, radio and print media. Your generosity is a direct act of witness in itself, as you facilitate the communication of the gospel message. Blanket Sunday Coming Soon The weekend of October marks the 32nd Annual Blanket Sunday Collection to aid the needy. This collection is sponsored by the Diocesan St. Vincent de Paul Society. Due to lack of storage space, we will greatly accept you donation and do the shopping for you, making your money go even further. Envelopes for Blanket Sunday are located in the basket in the Mother Teresa Vestibule. You may also donate online at Bible Study, Faith Sharing Bible study will meet in the chapel from 11:00am - 12:00pm Tuesday. Our journey through Jeremiah continues as God s chosen people struggle to remain faithful but the world overtakes them. Much like today s world. Everyone is welcome no matter how limited your knowledge of scripture might be. Bring your Bible and an open heart. Quiet Prayer This week s session will consist entirely of Quiet Prayer. As we enter into a contemplative mode, we find ourselves drawn ever more deeply into relationship with Christ. Come and spend a few quiet moments with the lord and listen as He speaks to your heart. We meet on Tuesdays from 12:30pm - 1:00pm in the chapel. Jesus invites you - Come and see. 12 Step Spirituality 12 Step Spirituality will meet in the chapel on Thursday afternoon from 2:30pm - 4:00pm. We continue our reflection on the principles of the program with assistance from The Gospels and the Twelve Steps. All 12 steppers are welcome, regardless of the program you are in. The Cleveland chapter has been much more active in the past two years, and is extremely helpful to keeping open communication between all of the directors! We have continued education programs, casual lunch dates, and other events together so that everyone is involved as a group to grow in faith and musicianship. Just last Monday, we had a get together about body mapping, which is the idea of having an adequately accurate idea of how your body moves and balances so that singing can sing more efficiently! It s always a good time to learn something new! Choir Rehearsal Schedules: Traditional Choir meets to rehearse on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm. Youth Choir also rehearses on Tuesdays at 5.30pm. If you are interested in participating in any of these choirs, cantoring, or playing an instrument during mass, please call or see Ms. Angela Kovacs after mass up in the loft. The Music Ministry office number is ext 27. Family Perspective Today Jesus tells us whoever gives a cup of water will be rewarded. Parents praise God each time they bring a glass of water to a child at night, or pour out Kool Aid to parched sweaty five-year olds. These simple daily acts of parents are sacred actions. 7 THEOLOGY ON THE ROCKS WEST - Monday 10/8/18 Theology on the Rocks West is a monthly discussion series designed to bring together adults, over the age of 40, in a casual atmosphere to explore their faith. The topic this month is the Knot of Forgiveness: How can we forgive hurt, betrayal, or injustice. Innocence, one man s journey from Death Row to Exoneration and finding the path to the Lord s peace.
