2 January 13, 2019 The Baptism of The Lord When an infant is clothed with the white baptismal garment, the minister prays: You have become a new creation, and have clothed yourself in Christ. See in this white garment the outward sign of your Christian dignity. With your family and friends to help you by word and example, bring that dignity unstained into the everlasting life of heaven. [Rite of Baptism for Children, 99]. At Jesus baptism a voice came from heaven: You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased. [Luke 3:16]. Jesus did not become a new creation, as we do. However, the people had a new awareness of who he was, God s beloved Son. When we are baptized, we become God s adopted sons and daughters. Baptism clothes us with Christ. We are to bring the Christian dignity of that garment unstained into everlasting life. The New Testament author Paul to Titus directs us in HOW to do that. We are to live temperately, justly and devoutly in this age [Titus 2:12]. That is we are to live with self-control, growing in biblical justice, that is, right relationship with God and one another. We are to be people of prayer and devotion or holiness, to which EVERY baptized person is called, no matter our state in life or lifestyle. By being holy, we fill the world with comfort, tenderness, and care about which Isaiah writes. The mountains, valleys, rough edges, and winding paths that can hinder us or make it difficult for us to trust God s ways are removed. And the glory of God is revealed when we find light in darkness, courage in fear, hope in despair, and life in the various deaths each day can bring. With family and friends to help us, or by helping them, we see God s beloved presence in our midst. [Living the Word 2019]. CONGRATULATIONS to our Second Graders who made their First Reconciliation (Confession) and are being enrolled into the First Eucharist (Communion) process TODAY, Sunday, January 13 th at the 9:30am Mass. They, along with their parents, pick up where Baptism began to grow in faith, hope and love and take on the responsibility to grow in their faith as they enter the process for First Eucharist (Communion). I would like to let the Traditional Choir know that we are full steam ahead for the coming Ordinary Time and Lent! Be prepared for a very productive rehearsal this week. Youth Choir rehearsals are also back in session starting this Tuesday. Thank you for letting me to take time off to celebrate my wedding; Devin and I can t wait to see everyone! This weekend s feast of the Baptism of the Lord is, unfortunately, the end of the Christmas season. That doesn t mean that today has to be sad; instead today we wrap up and remember just how Jesus came into the earthly world as a baby so that he could be recognized by others as the savior! In the Luke Gospel, this is the first time that the people are given a clear sign that Jesus is the true son of God. Here is the culmination of Christmas; Christ is born unto the world so that he can die and open heaven up to all. I consider Christmas to be like the prelude movie to the Easter story; you can better understand the main event with the backstory. This season has only grown our love and appreciation for how much Jesus sacrificed for our redemption. We are truly blessed people who are so loved by our Creator! Let us take this week to let the story of Christ s birth sink into our souls as we continue to act out our faith to the world. Choir Rehearsal Schedules: Youth Choir rehearses on Tuesdays at 5.30pm, and Traditional Choir at 7.30pm. If you are interested in participating in any of these choirs, cantoring, or playing an instrument during mass, please call or see Ms. Angela Kovacs after mass up in the loft. YETI will reconvene for 2019 starting this Sunday with YETI Trivia Night at the Garrity Center. Padua High School held an Art Show during the month of December. There were 16 schools participating this year, entering a total of 192 works of art. Several of our students entered an art piece in this show and four received an award. Special congratulations to: Parker Kaylor, Grade 2, and Anna Buehrer, Grade 5, both whom received an Honorable Mention. Jackson Kaylor, Grade 4, and Mya Tucci, Grade 6, both received a Third Place Award. This is a tremendous accomplishment for these young artists. Congratulations to all of you!
