2 Twenty Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 23, 2018 The Book of Wisdom is possibly the last addition to the Hebrew Old Testament, having been written about fifty years before Christ. The wisdom literature demonstrates a growing understanding that immortality awaits the virtuous. In the portion of the reading we hear today, the author recounts the intrigues of the wicked in reaction to the just one. For he sets himself against our doings... reproaches us... and charges us. The author scolds those who failed to consider the reward for the innocent. The Letter to James turns its attention to the root of wickedness, jealousy and selfish ambitions and passions that make war. The Letter of James draws on the Wisdom traditions to contrast the earthly ways with those of the wise, which are from above. The author infers that the Christian is to be a lover of God and not a lover of the world. Again, in today s Gospel, the disciples just don t get it that is they don t get the consequences of Jesus preaching. Jesus is speaking again of his passion, but the disciples don t understand. Imagine how they felt when they had to answer Jesus question about what they were talking about when he was speaking again of his upcoming passion! And then, Jesus totally upsets their mindset when he takes a child who had no status or legal standing in their world, and says, Whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the One who sent me. FAITH FORMATION is off and running this year with about 150 students in our 1 st through 8 th Grades. Willing to learn, our students gather on Monday evening with classmates and teachers to learn the ways of our faith. THIS YEAR, Fr. Mike and I will be able to celebrate a MONTHLY MASS with our students in the School Gym at 6:45pm. So parents and families and students and EVERYONE is welcome to join us in the School Gym for Mass. SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION PROGRAMS began last week and our 2 nd Graders are eager to learn about Confession and Holy Communion. THIS YEAR we are using a NEW SERIES called BLESSED from Dynamic Catholic. Not only is the workbook and Leader s Guide attractive, parents and students can access the Dynamic Catholic website for all the lessons and insights to HOW TO LIVE a blessed life! CONFIRMATION CANDIDATE also met last Sunday and learned that they are going to be involved in an interactive program this year interactive WITH our Youth Engagement Teen Initiative (YETI) on Sunday evenings. They too are using the Dynamic Catholic Series called, DECISION POINT as they learn about their discipleship ROLE as Catholics! All in all it s going to be a great time to Learn and Live! I give thanks for your generosity and faithfulness to the financial stability of the Parish! Live well! Father John

Prayer begins at home and a family that prays together, stays together. We must give Jesus a home in our homes for only then can we give Him to others. There are people who will test us to see if our faith is legitimate enough for them. It isn t our job to retaliate; we only have to continue living our faithfilled life and know that God will be there to help us when things go poorly. I am delighted that I was able to use such a well-loved hymn that fits so well with the readings! Prayer of St. Francis is a prayer asking God to give us the skills and strength to counter any evil that comes our way by passing on God s love and forgiveness to others. May we all find peace in God s care and stability in his love. Choir Rehearsal Schedules: Traditional Choir meets to rehearse on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm. Youth Choir also rehearses on Tuesdays at 5.30pm. If you are interested in participating in any of these choirs, cantoring, or playing an instrument during mass, please call or see Ms. Angela Kovacs after mass up in the loft. The Music Ministry office number is ext 27. Family Perspective In today s gospel Jesus tell us whoever welcomes a child, welcomes me. Pope Francis reminds us of the importance of families for children, The family is important, and it is necessary for the survival of humanity. Without the family, the cultural survival of the human race would be at risk. The family, whether we like it or not, is the foundation.
