2 Twenty Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 17, 2017 So we are in the Fourth Discourse of Matthew s Gospel, the Discourse on the Church, or as some commentators refer to it as the Sermon on Community order and discipline. You know, throughout Matthew s Gospel Jesus has presented a new interpretation of the Law, I have come, not to abolish the law but to fulfill them. (c 5:17) and Peter s question about limited forgiveness in the Gospel today goes against everything Jesus has been teaching them (and us) so far. Forgiveness can t be limited to a number. It is to be unbounded, as the parable reveals in the Gospel today. The families of each of our Day School and Parish School of Religion received a small book this year, titles, Celebrating Sundays of Catholic Families , published by Liturgy Training Publications (LTP). The short reflection in that Book for today s Gospel reads: Forgiveness can be hard, whether we are giving it or receiving it. We do not like to feel that we have done something wrong, but all of us sometimes need forgiveness. It can help to remember our failings when others are unkind. In these times, we need to rely on the deepest parts of our hearts that are connected to God. In that place we will always be able to find the strength and patience to forgive, even if it is seventy-seven times. So, is there someone you need to forgive or someone who s waiting for you to accept their forgiveness? MAKE IT HAPPEN! The Ohio Catholic Credit Union made a $5,000 Award to St. Mary School for the Discovery Hall! Last May St. Mary School applied for a Grant from the Ohio Catholic Credit Union for the redesign and implementation of our Discovery Hall and we received the scholarship this past month! Yeah US! It will be used wisely and well for the continued support of our Discovery Hall. If you haven t taken the time to SEE the new space, PLEASE, make an effort to come and see. We are full STEAM ahead in our Discovery Hall discovering new ways of learning in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM)! Did you make it to Women of Grace this past Tuesday or That Man is You this past Thursday? BOTH spirituality Programs are FOR YOU. Everyone is ALWAYS invited to come and see! Join us for these wonderful spiritual opportunities! Have you heard about Discovering Christ? This 7 week Series is being held at Mary Queen of the Apostles this fall, beginning October 3rd. This is a wonderful way to find Christ in our everyday lives and to live Him daily. Check out the Mary Queen of the Apostles website for more information. Many THANKS for your financial commitment to the Parish this past weekend. Blessings and peace to all. Fr. John

When we reconcile, we move to a new plateau in our relationship where the needs of all parties are heard and respected. In families we can sometimes forgive someone without even speaking. Reconciling is more difficult, for we must involve the one who has hurt us and rebuild trust. It is not always safe or possible to reconcile, but forgiveness is an essential ingredient of the Kingdom of Heaven. From September 27th to November 5th, you re invited to join other Christians for 40 Days for Life - 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. You re also invited to stand and peacefully pray anytime between 7am to 7pm during the 40-day vigil in the public right-of-way outside Preterm Shaker Blvd, Cleveland or Planned Parenthood Rockside Road, Bedford or Family Planning - 54 South State St., Painesville Please help spread the word about this important community outreach. Mother Teresa How can a merciful God allow such suffering? Welcome - Newly Baptized Welcome this weekend the newly baptized - Natalie, Madelyn, & Joseph Jr. Wallace ( How can a merciful God, asked a newspaperman, Allow such suffering, children dying of hunger, people killed in earthquakes... What can you say to that? )...All that suffering where would the world be without it? It is innocent suffering, and that is the same as the suffering of Jesus. He suffered for us and all the innocent suffering is joined to His in the Redemption. It is co-redemption. That is helping to save the world from worse things. Not only is it a very difficult word to pronounce on sight, but it is so important to our church as a ministry of evangelization! Anyone who is in a position where they can teach the traditions and faith of the Catholic Church is a catechist. This includes those that we expect, such as priests, deacons, brothers and sisters of the church, but it also includes those we may not think about, such as religion teachers at a Catholic school or Sunday School. Don t forget about the biggest group of catechists: parents! That s right, as you teach the faith to your children from a young age, you are evangelizing to your little one so that they can come to understand the faith through experience. The word catechetical comes from the Greek root word of catechesis which means to echo, or resound. When you teach in the name of God and the name of the Church, then you are fulfilling the call to evangelize! A friendly reminder for all of those in our Youth Choir: I want to see all of your beautiful faces every week! If you aren t able to come to a rehearsal, that doesn t mean that you shouldn t still come to 11.30pm mass on Sunday! Please come up so that we can raise our voices and celebrate the mass together! Choir Rehearsal Schedules: Traditional Choir meets to rehearse on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm. Youth Choir also rehearses on Tuesdays at 5.30pm. If you are interested in participating in any of these choirs, cantoring, or playing an instrument during mass, please call or see Ms. Angela Kovacs after mass up in the loft. Call the music ministry office for more information: ext 27. Bible Study & Faith Sharing Bible Study meets in the chapel each Tuesday from 11:00am - Noon.
