2 The Most Holy Trinity June 11, 2017 Today s Solemnity commemorates the central dogma of Christianity: the Trinity. One of the greatest gifts of the Christian faith is the dogma of the triune God: God is three (tri) in one (une). The Christian God Father, Son and Holy Spirit is relational. How amazing and wonderfully mysterious at the same time! Today we gather in praise and glory of God, who comes to us in so many ways as Father, Creator, Son, Redeemer, Holy Spirit, and Sanctifier. Today s Feast is a perfect opportunity to ask HOW are we like the triune God Father, Son and Holy Spirit in whose image and likeness we have been fashioned and WHAT do we do to reflect that image and likeness? Ordinary Time Filled with the Holy Spirit, we go forward to the counted weeks in Ordinary Time in summer and fall. The Sundays of this time begin with the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity and the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ reminding us of the core of our faith in God Father, Son and Holy Spirit a communion of divine Persons and the source of our life together, the Body and Blood of Christ. The lengthy period of the counted weeks in Ordinary Time offers us an opportunity to step back and reflect on the meaning of our faith as a whole. Unlike the major seasons and feasts of the year, Ordinary Time allows us to ponder the mystery of faith in its entirety every time we gather to celebrate the Mass. The Church remembers the witness of many saints during this time, allowing us today to see how our faith journeys intertwine with theirs. In case Ordinary Time becomes tedious and uninteresting after the intensity of the high liturgical seasons, we ought to let the question of how we are to live as disciples here and now resonate with us as we discern daily how to follow Christ in the interim time before he comes in glory. May they rest in eternal peace. Mother Teresa Jesus: the Living Bread, understanding love The meaning of this Eucharist is understanding love. Christ understood. He understood that we have a terrible hunger for God. He understood that we have been created to be loved, and so He made Himself a Bread of Life and He said, Unless you eat My flesh and drink My blood, you cannot live, you cannot love, you cannot serve. You must eat this Bread and the goodness of the love of Christ to share His understanding love. He also wants to give us the chance to put our love for Him in a living action. He makes Himself the hungry one, not only for bread, but for love. He makes himself the naked one, not only for a piece of cloth but for that understanding love, that dignity, human dignity. He makes Himself the homeless one, not only for the piece of a small room, but for that deep sincere love for the other, and this is the Eucharist. This is Jesus, the Living Bread that He has come to break with you and me. Bible Study & Faith Sharing Matthew shows us how Jesus is the culmination of the Old Testament. We can more clearly understand our place in salvation history; Join us in the chapel on Tuesday morning from 11:00am - 12:00pm. Our goal is to make the gospel come to life within our lives. Just bring your Bible and an open heart and join us. Evening Bible Study is taking some time off and will not meet again until September. Watch the bulletin for the date of the first session. Quiet Prayer Will meet on Tuesday at 12:20pm in the chapel. Lectio Divina will be followed by quiet prayer. We finish at 1:00pm. If you feel called to prayer without words, we invite you to join us. As we pray in the quiet, we find ourselves called to a deeper relationship with God, gaining strength from those who pray with us. 12 Step Spirituality 12 Step Spirituality meets in the chapel on Thursday from 2:30pm until 4:00pm. This week our focus will be on Step 6. We also continue to explore Seeds of Grace as we seek to deepen the spiritual leg of our program. This program is open to all 12 Steppers. Family Perspective God the Father so loved the world that he gave his only Son that we might believe and have eternal life. The Christian family is a church of the home that is an icon of the Trinity. Mothers, fathers and grandparents can model love and virtue in such a way that all family members see the ways of God and can imitate them. Seeing is believing. I never consider Ordinary Time to be ordinary. Just because we don t have a specific focus for our prayer (e.g. waiting for Jesus birth or preparing our hearts for His greatest sacrifice) doesn t mean that it s a break time from religion! Ordinary Time is kind of like a personalized internship; you create your own goals and expectations to work on your faith, and God is the world s greatest and most patient proctor! This week let us try to focus on the mystery of the Trinity, the Three-In-One that has shaped our world to the beautiful home that it is! Choir Rehearsal Schedules: Traditional Choir and Contemporary ensemble meets to rehearse on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm. Youth Choir also rehearses on Tuesdays at 6.pm. If you are interested in participating in any of these choirs, cantoring, or playing an instrument during mass, please call or see me after mass up in the loft. Centennial of the Fatima Apparitions On May 13th of this year the Catholic Church celebrated the 100 year Anniversary of Mary s first apparition near Fatima, Portugal. Mary asked that people pray the rosary daily for peace and salvation of souls. Our Parish has a Pilgrim Virgin statue of Our Lady of Fatima, which travels around to homes in our parish. You can sign up to have the statue in your home for a week. A sign-up sheet will be in the chapel, along with the statue the week of June 11th 18th. 50th Wedding Anniversary Diocese of Cleveland 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Sunday, July 30, :30pm Mass For all couples who are celebrating 50 years of marriage (married in 1967), as well as couples celebrating a significant anniversary (55 or over) or who have missed previous celebrations. Seating is limited in the Cathedral. The number of guests will be determined by the seating capacity and total number registered. Registration forms are available in the Parish Rectory Office. Forms must be received no later than Monday, June 19, 2017.

Make us a favorite! PSR Calendar of Events Registration for is now open. Forms for have been sent home. These forms can be returned, with this year s fee, to the REO when completed to assure your child s spot in our Program for next year. PSR will begin August 27 th. Forms can also be downloaded from the parish website at... Coffee, Tea & Thee The Next Coffee, Tea & Thee will be on: Sunday - June 18th - 12:30pm Fr. John Garrity Center (Meeting Room) Coffee, Tea and Thee will be having a special Father's day event hosted by one of our members who is both a Knight of Columbus and a member of TMIY. ALL are welcomed. This event will cater to both men and women. Come share a donut, coffee, tea, and a warm conversation with us. Is God calling you? Are you trying to find someplace where you can help? How about sharing your faith with the youth of our Parish? Classes begin August 28, Top Reasons why We hesitate being a Catechist Maybe being a catechist is something you feel God is calling you to, but you ve got some reservations. Joe Paprocki, a former Director of Religious Education and current 8 th grade catechist came up with some reasons why he thinks that people hesitate to volunteer to be a catechist which he has published. Over the next few weeks I ll be reprinting some of these reasons with responses from current Catechists. I hope this helps you. If you want to ask some more questions about volunteering as a catechist, please call the Religious Education Office. Hope to hear from you soon! I m hesitant to become a catechist because I don t know if I can handle a group of kids. I don t know if kids will like me. Everyone is nervous going into a classroom on their first day of teaching (Some of us were nervous for our first several weeks of teaching). The good news is that the children already know how to behave in a classroom from being at school. They know what acceptable behavior is and what it is not. The bad news is that they will sometimes act up. Children thrive when there are clear expectations for their behavior and clear consequences for when they step out of line. If you are friendly, fair, and firm with your students, classroom discipline comes easier. And people of all ages like others who are friendly, fair, and firm. I don t know if I ll be able to answer kids questions. Our textbooks are very easy to use and the answers to most questions you will be asked will come from the text. However, sometimes, kids come up with really excellent questions that are not all that easy to answer. There is absolutely nothing wrong with saying, I don t know, but I ll find out and tell you next time we meet. Then, after class, you can just walk down to the Religious Ed Office and ask us for the answer.
