2 Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time November 12, 2017 The Book of Wisdom, written in the mid-first century BCE, attempts to answer the perennial question, why do the wicked prosper while the good suffer? The answer to which is difficult to ascertain, however, reflection on human experience leads to the underlying order of life. The primary concern of the Thessalonians and the reason for seeking out Paul s advice may have been the deaths of believers in the community. They too want to know. Paul s answer assures them that those who have fallen asleep will be the first to be raised when the Lord returns. And Jesus in Matthew s Gospel emphasizes the importance of being ready and being ready means personal preparation and personal responsibility. Stewardship of time is one of the three interlinked dimensions of our call to stewardship, which are time, talents and treasure. Just as with our financial resources, we talk about spending time, saving time, and wasting time. But how well do we steward our time, or use it in a way that reflects our gratitude to God for every hour of every day? According to the latest government survey, ( Bureau of Labor Statistics), the average American spends about 5 hours of spare time each day in these activities: 2.8 hours watching TV 38 minutes socializing and communicating 20 minutes reading 20 minutes using the computer for fun 16 minutes relaxing and thinking 17 minutes participating in sports, exercise, active recreation 20 minutes on other activities How do you use your leisure time? Where do your priorities lie? How much time do you give back to God in prayer, study, volunteering in the parish? Teach us to count our days aright, that we may gain wisdom of heart. (Psalm 90:12) KEEP COLLECTING Non-Perishable Food Items to FILL THE BASKETS on Thanksgiving Day! Bring all your items with you to Mass at 9:30am! Baskets will be IN THE SANCTUARY for you to FILL before Mass! Join the faith family of St. Mary on Thanksgiving Morning at 9:30am and give thanks for all the blessings of life and love! THANK YOU for your NEW INTENTION to INCREASE your financial commitment to the Parish this past weekend. The results are in and are evident in the Sunday Collection! Wow! We are indeed blessed because of your sacrifice, prayer and commitment. THANK YOU and many blessings! Fr. John

They can t be put on our calendar like an appointment they just happen. We must be ready and responsive to family members in need. By responding promptly with faith and hope. God will provide wisdom and strength. Grateful Giving Update Our Grateful Giving Program continues to be well received by the people of St. Mary Parish. We thank those who have already responded! We recognize that all we possess comes from God. We are God s stewards. As good stewards, it is our responsibility to give back a portion of the time, talent and treasure we receive from our generous and loving God. When we make stewardship of time and talent part of our lifestyle and stewardship of treasure part of our budget, we move closer to GRATEFUL Living. If you have not already done so, please use the special Grateful Giving envelope to indicate your new level of giving and return to your regular envelope packet for succeeding weeks.

Here are three saints who used their worldly gifts to better the lives of those without. On Monday, we celebrate St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, for whom our current Mass setting is named after! St. Frances was dedicated to the religious life and taught at a girls orphanage and school, drawing a community of those living a faithful life. After becoming Mother Cabrini, she founded several orphanages, schools, and hospitals in Italy and New York. She lived the remainder of her life dedicated to supporting others. On Thursday, St. Margaret of Scotland has her feast day. This English princess married King Malcolm of Scotland and used her influence to help correct religious abuse in all levels of faith. She promoted arts and education throughout the land, and was constantly working to help the poor. She lived a humble life of prayer and piety, and helped build the Abbey of Dunfermline, which holds a relic of the True Cross. Friday is the feast day of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, who was also a royal who dedicated her life to service to the poor, and used her position as Queen of Thuringia to advance her mission of charity. After her husband s death, she committed herself to her charitable work, which she did until her passing. Choir Rehearsal Schedules: Traditional Choir meets to rehearse on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm. Youth Choir also rehearses on Tuesdays at 5.30pm. The Knights of Columbus joyously provides tuition support to those seminarians and the funds we raise help make that happen. The Vocations Information Fair will take place right alongside our Pancake Breakfast.
