3 Pastor s Notes Most of us have been told since we were children that Jesus is God. The example of being brought to church on Sundays has had a lasting effect on us who go to church, but what about now? The Israelites had passed through the Red Sea on dry land, but when they became thirsty from being in the desert, all they did was complain. They did not choose to pray. The Israelites were not even fair weather friends of God. How many of our children whom we brought to Mass ach Sunday have given up going to Mass? How quickly we can forget! In our modern age there are so many worldly attractions that can distract us from the necessities of life. It is easy to shell out $200 for a sports team to keep the kids occupied and prevent them from a relationship with God. For us older people, we can get a pill to keep us from concerning ourselves with the problems that come from being so distant from God. When the wealthy man in hell asks Abraham to have Lazarus in heaven return to earth to warn his brothers to return to God, Abraham says, Even if someone should return from the dead, they will not be convinced. Our Catholic faith teaches us that Jesus has risen from the dead. It does not seem to convince our cultural Catholics to mend their ways. They are truly enslaved in their deserts and ignoring Moses and the prophets. What is the solution? Perhaps doing with less and being with each other. Even more important saying this prayer, O my God, I firmly believe that you are one God in three divine Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I believe that Your divine Son became man and died for our sins, and that He will come to judge the living and dead. I believe these and all the truths which the holy Catholic Church teaches, because in revealing them You can neither deceive nor be deceived. Amen. So many of our young people who have lost meaning in their lives plunge themselves into alcohol, drugs, gambling, pornography and even sports. Too many lose hope and commit suicide. This lifestyle invariably is linked to spiritual destitution because they turn away from God and reject His Love. They do not ask how to get out of this hopelessness. But Jesus gives the answer, If you love Me, keep My commandments. The woman at the well illustrates the same problem we have today. She goes to the well at noon, when most people are either eating or napping because of the heat. She is embarrassed to go out when people are around because she has gone through five men already. But God in His mercy encounters her. Immediately she begins to do the reflecting and interacting with God that she has neglected for years. While all her issues are not resolved, she, a sinner, begins to evangelize her friends who are probably in the same position. Nothing is impossible for God. How can we bring Christ to our black sheep in our families? Perhaps we should begin to say nothing so as not to antagonize the situation. Think of the pain that would cause us. But do not let it just sit there. Unite it to Jesus in prayer. Get away from all the allurements of this life and seek Jesus to take on our sufferings. He too does not wish the sinner to die. Perhaps with this silent sacrifice we could unite it to Him on His Cross. I am sure He can encounter these people as He did with this woman at the well. After all, nothing is impossible for God. We cannot reform those enslaved to sin. Only God can. We Catholics have many gifts that our cultural Catholics have lost. Do you really believe that God can do this? Or do you want to stay where you are and combat them to the point where they may never visit you again. We need to make acts of faith by beginning with that prayer above. All that Jesus asks of us is to believe. It is only then that He acts to move mountains. Fr. Euk Scripture Meditation But the hour is coming, and is now here, when true worshippers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth. Are we true worshippers? Do we praise and honor God the Father in the way Jesus described to the Samaritan woman at the well? It seems that this woman was caught up in logistics about where to worship more than how to worship. Her people worshiped in one place, the Jews in another. She was puzzled by this and, even though she could see that Jesus was a prophet, she challenged him because she thought perhaps he wasn t a true worshipper of God. The Lord s response to her was to shift the focus away from a particular physical location for honoring God. In essence, he told her that what mattered was that we worship God by being filled with his Spirit, the Spirit of truth, [who] will guide you to all truth, as Jesus will say later in John s Gospel (16:13). This woman, whose life was marked by such a sad string of broken relationships, had been missing the point. Worshipping God means more than merely practicing a community ritual or frequenting a sacred site. If we don t come to truly know God by welcoming his Spirit into our hearts, then our worship will be empty and our lives will always be missing something. The deep fulfillment that is meant to come from following the Lord is a fruit of being filled with his Spirit. Without drinking fully of this living water that is available to all of us through the waters of baptism, we will always be seeking something more, like this poor woman. Instead, may we be true worshippers, who drink with satisfaction from the Lord s own spring of water welling up to eternal life.

High School Music Ministry Calling all Youth Music Ministry!!! Walk ins are welcome too. 40 DAYS FOR LIFE The 40 Days for Life is a campaign of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion here in America, from March 1 to April 9. Since its inception in 2007, 12,668 lives have been saved, 143 abortion workers have quit, and 83 abortion centers have closed. The goal is to help women who are considering getting an abortion and encourage them to change their minds. People are being asked to simply stand (or walk) there and say the Rosary or other prayers for one hour. Here in Monmouth, the site is the Planned Parenthood facility at 69 E. Newman Springs Rd. in Shrewsbury. We have been asked to staff each Wednesday from March 1 to April 9. That would be 6 Wednesdays: March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, and April 5. The hours are from 8 AM to 6 PM.
