3 Pastor s Notes Through Jeremiah, God points out how important each life is even before birth. All of us are wanted and loved by God with an important role to play in salvation history. By virtue of our baptism, we are called to be prophets with a message not everyone wants to hear, but like Jeremiah we are called to deliver that message each according to the vocation God has given us. At times we may feel crushed, but still the Lord is with us to deliver us. Do children always accept their parents directives? Do politicians always do the will of God? We are always challenged. With our prayers, we can build up our own faith by praying for them and witnessing how God works in their lives. Jesus rolls up the scroll of Isaiah and says, Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing. Jesus has just read part of the Suffering Servant Songs. Like all the Words of God, we can always speak favorably about them until we are asked to put them into practice. But when the Word of God is preached, how many of us seem to think there is an exception for ourselves? The people, whom Jesus grew up with, cannot accept Jesus as the Messiah because they feel they know Him and His background is insufficient for Him to take on that role. You might think of the proverb, Familiarity breeds contempt. They are willing to accept Him as a magician, but in no way as a moral leader. Luke has already told us in his first three chapters where Jesus came from, but they seem not to know this because they assume He is a local. The more violent reaction may have been precipitated by the Roman occupational forces who mistreated many of the Jews. Because Elijah helped the widow and her son at Zarephath, both Gentiles, and Naaman s cure by Elisha, another Gentile, Jesus shows a favoritism with the Gentile people and perhaps some contempt for His former neighbors. Fr. Euk Jude 1:22 - On those who waver, have mercy. Our lives can be filled with doubt these days, whether it s caused by the media, politics, family, friends, health, and even at times our Church. Coming across Jude s verse helped me to understand why it s in the bible. If well-meaning circumstances causes us to be affected because of our uncertainty, it probably didn t help and made us even more preoccupied. When these questions of uncertainly or doubt enter our mind and heart, that s the time when we need someone alongside us to hold us up and provide the answers and not be a critic who wants to condemn our feelings in this time of need. Being aware of this, we should, put our faith in God and follow the example of Jesus Mercy and have compassion for others who may waver. Let s be those merciful followers of Christ and with a little love and compassion we can aid those with wavering hearts around us. Maybe someday we may need that person to be at our side. Deacon Gino Scripture Meditation Do you believe that God wants to act with power in your life today? Power to set you free from sin and hurtful desires, fear and oppression. Throughout the Scriptures we see God performing mighty acts to save his people from death and destruction - from Noah's ark that spared his family from the flood of wickedness that had spread across the land to Moses and the Israelites who crossed through the parting waters of the Red Sea as they fled the armies of Pharoah their slave Master and oppressor. Throughout the Gospel accounts Jesus praised individuals who put their faith in God as they remembered the great and wonderful deeds he had performed time and again. Jesus even praised outsiders - non-jews and pagans from other lands who had heard about the mighty deeds of the God of Israel. One example Jesus mentioned was Naaman the pagan army commander from Syria who was afflicted with leprosy - a debilitating skin disease that slowly ate away the flesh (2 Kings 5:1-15). Naaman's slave-girl was a young Jewish woman who had faith in God and compassion for Naaman her master. She urged him to seek healing from Elisha, the great prophet of Israel.When Naaman went to the land of Israel to seek a cure for his leprosy, the prophet Elisha instructed him to bathe seven times in the Jordan river. Namaan was indignant at first, but then repented and followed the prophet's instructions. In doing so he was immediately restored in body and spirit.

5 Bake Sale-Today Boy Scout Troop 300 will be holding an Eagle Scout Bake Sale fundraiser this Sunday (Feb. 3rd) after each Mass from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM. All proceeds will support Eagle Scout candidate Tim Weg s project to perform grounds and safety improvements around the rectory and Stations of the Cross. Air Conditioner Replacement Campaign Goal- 200, Donations (Current) 119, Balance: 80, As of May 5, 2018, there will be a second collection on each Sunday that there is no Diocesan collection. This special second collection will be earmarked for our needed air conditioning system in the Church. We will continue this campaign until we reach our goal and we will keep you advised of our project status.
