3 Pastor s Notes You may have noticed a second TV in the narthex. This was an earmarked donation to the parish for the purpose of maintaining a reverent atmosphere in the nave of the church. It is very important that our little children attend Mass, but sometimes they can be unpredictable and persistent in behavior that distracts the entire congregation and the priests and deacons especially while they are delivering their homilies. The narthex now provides a place for them to go when they loose self-control during the public prayer of the congregation. Also it provides a space for people with special needs. Because food and drink are prohibited in the nave, it also provides a place for those who need to be drinking or eating because of various health conditions that cause them to drop the one hour Eucharistic fast which is mandated by the church. Please remember to leave your cell phone in your car or put it on airplane mode when you come for Mass. We speak of Jesus' baptism as His anointing. In the Old Testament anointings were used to set people apart for religious purposes, such as, priests, prophets, and kings. John the Baptist experiences an epiphany after Jesus comes up out of the water and the Holy Trinity becomes visible. It is the second Epiphany observed by the Church. (Adoration of Magi and Cana are the other two.) St. Peter tells us, After the baptism that John preached... God anointed Jesus with Spirit and power. Jesus is now being set apart by the total God Head and God Himself anoints Him as the long awaited Messiah. The Mystery of Jesus Anointing is significant for our salvation. It is more important for us and not for Him. It happened for us to make us holy as Jesus is holy. In the Incarnation the Holy Spirit caused the Word to become both human and divine. In this baptism, the Holy Spirit intervenes for us to attest to Christ s dignity as does God the Father, You are My Beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased. Ironically the sinless Jesus lines up with sinners to be baptized. This is a prelude to when He takes on our sins on the Cross between two thieves to save us from sin. His baptism is a breaking of the silence. The silent school at Nazareth comes to an end and Jesus, now thirty, old enough to speak in the Temple, takes on His public ministry. It is similar to Mary s fiat. Jesus, being like us in all things, but sin, takes on human obedience to the Father. It is a prelude to the Passion. In taking on this new mission, He now takes on a more grandiose lifestyle with miracles, preaching with authority, and victory over demons. God was separated from human beings by corruption and sin. The Holy Spirit could not be given to humans, until Jesus was anointed. The Holy Spirit had to become accustomed to dwelling among humans. The Holy Spirit became humanized and historicized in Jesus through the Incarnation. After the crucifixion, sin was destroyed and it was only then that the Holy Spirit could sanctify sinful human beings, provided that they repent and ask God for forgiveness. Fr. Euk Scripture Meditation Philippians 4:6 - Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Anxiety can sometimes paralyze us. If you have anxiety and want a sure cure, get on your knees and start praying. Allow the Lord to come into your heart and start trusting Him because He has our best interests at heart. No matter what situation we may face, His peace and love will replace our concerns and anxiety. God says there is nothing we need to worry about. Just put all our troubles in His hands, and He who rules the universe, yet knows each hair on our head, will see to it that everything will work out right. Let s make our requests know to Him. 4 OUR SPIRITUAL LIFE Please Pray for Our Sick March For Life Washington, D.C. January 18, 2019 Again this year, we are joining St. Robert Bellarmine s bus to go down to the March for Life in Washington, D.C. on Friday, January 18, There is no charge for the bus. We will arrange car pools from St. Veronica s to St. Robert s for the morning of Jan 18, or provide directions to the Church. Let us show our support for the sanctity of all human life. Please call Hu or Joan Mador at to reserve a seat on the bus. There will be a special Respect Life Mass celebrated by Bishop O Connell at 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 17 at St. Robert Bellarmine Co-Cathedral in Freehold. There will also be a Mass of Life at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, January 22 at the Cathedral in Trenton, followed by a Rally for Life at the Statehouse at 11:00 AM. Please make every effort to attend one or both of these events. Thank you for your support. 5 Catholic School News and Open House Two strong and successful elementary schools, St. Veronica in Howell and St. Aloysius in Jackson will pool their resources and efforts and undergo a merger at the end of this school year, transitioning into Mother Seton Academy at this location. Father Euk and Fr Bambrick announced this decision on January 7 th at a joint meeting with faculty and staff, and then to parents in both schools. Bringing the two schools together will not only strengthen Catholic education in our communities now, but will ensure it for the future. This new model presents opportunities for growth and vision. Our superintendent, Mrs. Joann Tier, said, It is both commendable and inspiring that these two parishes are going to work together to ensure the continued health of Catholic Education for the children in their communities and those throughout the area. Bishop O Connell has approved the merger, has been encouraging and supporting the establishment and launch of the new Academy. May God continue to bless these endeavors The Week of February 4 th to 8 th we will host a Hospitality Week whereby parents may tour our building to become familiar with our school. On Sunday, February 10 th students will attend the 10:30 Mass followed by an Open House beginning at 11:30 2:30. ALL are welcome! Story Time With Jackson Starting January 16, 2019, the Church of Epiphany, Brick, will be hosting for Children 6 months and up story time with Jackson a 9 year old Maltese Mix Therapy Dog. Jackson will be doing story time biweekly on Wednesday's from 11:30AM-12PM. This is a free event ~ no need to register. For more information call Church of Epiphany Air Conditioner Replacement Campaign Goal- 200, Donations (Current) 111, Balance: 88, As of May 5, 2018, there will be a second collection on each Sunday that there is no Diocesan collection. This special second collection will be earmarked for our needed air conditioning system in the Church. We will continue this campaign until we reach our goal and we will keep you advised of our project status.
