3 Pastor s Notes St. Francisco Marto and St. Jacinta Marto were two ordinary children who had a special love for the Holy Eucharist which they called the Hidden Jesus because they could only know Him by faith. In preparation for the apparitions of the Mother of God, an angel appeared to them. After each of the apparitions by the angel, the children found that their strength was sapped. The presence of the supernatural made them intensely still. Francisco said, I love to see the angel, but the worst of it is that afterwards I was unable to do anything. I couldn t even walk. I don t know what was the matter with me. Little by little, the atmosphere of the supernatural faded away. Our Lady appeared to them when Jacinta was 7, Francisco 9 and Lucia 10. The Apparitions of Our Lady plunged the children more into the atmosphere of the supernatural, but this time more gently. Instead of that annihilation felt by the angel, they still felt exhausted, but it left them filled with peace and expansive joy, which did not prevent them from speaking afterwards. After promising the children that Our Lady would take them to Heaven, Mary showed them a vision of hell. The horrific vision made the young children dedicate themselves to making reparation for sin, for the conversion of sinners and for the intentions of the Holy Father. Francisco advised Jacinta, Don t think so much about hell! Think about Our Lord and Our Lady instead. Within three years Francisco at 10 and Jacinta at 9 were called from this life. For Lucia s First Penance, the priest sensed a vocation to the religious life and asked her to pray before a statue of the Blessed Virgin. She chose the statue of Our Lady of the Rosary, asking Her to keep her poor heart for God alone. With that the statue of Mary smiled with a loving and kindly gesture that ensured her that she would. At her First Communion she felt bathed in a supernatural atmosphere and perceived the presence of the Lord as if she saw and heard Him. She said to Him, O Lord, make me a saint. Keep my heart always pure for You alone. When ever Mary appeared to the three seers, a light came out of Our Lady giving them an interior impulse that compelled them to keep silent. Mysteriously in this light messages were conveyed which were shared among the children. Francisco was told by Mary to pray many rosaries. He said, I loved seeing the angel, but I loved still more seeing Our Lady. What I loved most of all was to see Our Lord in that light from Our Lady which penetrated our hearts. I love God so much! But He is very sad because of so many sins. We must never commit any sins again. Lucia understood in this light that shone into her heart that she would live a long time. The children were greatly disturbed by the vision of hell, but Francisco was more impressed with being absorbed by the Most Holy Trinity, Who was perceived in that light which penetrated his inmost soul. Lucia underwent much ridicule from her mother, who beat her with a stick, and her sisters because they felt she was making up the whole story. This lack of support brought her to the point of being tempted to believe that she was really seeing the devil. She had a frightful dream where the devil was laughing at her for his successful deception and he began to drag her down into hell. Yet Francisco and Jacinta supported her and convinced her otherwise because of the mutual beautiful experiences they had in the visions. He told her to offer up her sufferings for the conversion of sinners. Lucia became a nun and was instructed by her bishop to write the third part of the Secret in In 1957 he sent it to Rome. It was read by St. John XXXIII in 1959 and Blessed Paul VI in St. John Paul II, who was shot on the feast of Our Lady of Fatima in 1981, read the secrets as he was recovering from his wounds in July On the day he was shot, he planned to establish the Pontifical Institute on Marriage and the Family. A year later, he went to Fatima and placed the bullet that hit him in the crown of Our Lady of Fatima. The full text of the secrets was published in 2000 with a commentary by Cardinal Ratzinger, the future Pope Benedict XVI. In 2008 Cardinal Carlo Caffarra, the first president of the Institute on Marriage and the Family, received a letter from Sr. Lucia that stated that the final battle between Our Lord and the reign of Satan will be over marriage and the family. Fr. Euk Scripture Meditation They would not come to the feast! What can a royal wedding party tell us about God's kingdom? One of the most beautiful images used in the Scriptures to depict what heaven is like is the wedding celebration and royal feast given by the King for his newly -wed son and bride. Whatever grand feast we can imagine on earth, heaven is the feast of all feasts because the Lord of heaven and earth invites us to the most important banquet of all - not simply as bystanders or guests - but as members of Christ's own body, his bride the church! The last book in the Bible ends with an invitation to the wedding feast of the Lamb - the Lord Jesus who offered his life as an atoning sacrifice for our sins and who now reigns as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The Spirit and the Bride say, Come! (Revelations 22:17). The Lord Jesus invites us to be united with himself in his heavenly kingdom of peace and righteousness. 5 Consider Joining our Altar Server Ministry St. Veronica Altar Server Ministry provides an opportunity for the young people of our parish to become more involved in the parish in a constructive, helpful and educational way. The altar server ministry is a very important and beautiful commitment to our parish community and is an invitation by God. The altar server ministry provides boys and girls with the opportunity to learn more about their faith and to begin to build a foundation of evangelization and stewardship by serving at Mass and other liturgical functions. An altar server is the right hand helper of the Priest and Deacon at the Mass. The ministry is open to those in Fourth Grade and beyond, who have celebrated their First Communion.
