3 Pastor s Notes This Easter comes at a very turbulent time for our Church and for our nation. There are many concerns about fairness and safety which have never been addressed before. There are also many organizations that are pushing for their new ideas and where it is heading, only God knows. While I am happy to see young people beginning to see the importance of political action, they are still young and lack prudence which only comes from prayer and life experience. I also wonder who are the adults leading them in that direction. Are these the same adults who have taken God and ethics out of our schools? Are they going to give them the incentives to riot and harm themselves? Easter is a time when God makes His strongest appeal to reestablish our relationship with Him. After the fall of Adam and Eve, the Devil has taken over this world, but God came to us as a man to show us how to live in relationships, just as He lives in the Holy Trinity. Unfortunately, He left it as an option that also requires us to cooperate and apply ourselves to learn and follow His ways. We learned from Lent that we cannot do this unless we do it with Him. Unlike the American way, which calls us to self reliance, He calls us to learn and follow His way, leading us to a solidarity, that calls us into a sublime relationship in a quest for the common good as well as a search for personal salvation through good deeds. On the other hand, the Devil seeks to destroy the solidarity that leads to the common good in an insidious way. Think of the perversions of nation building of Stalin and Hitler and how the right people grouped together as a team to kill millions. The Devil has a way of joining personal sins with institutions to desensitize even children to Christ s ways. I cannot predict, as I write these notes on the Monday before Easter, what the media is going to unfold, not only against the Church, but also the personal sins of our leaders. Already prostitutes are coming out and telling all about their personal sins to detract our president. Who is behind their desire to make public their personal shame and for what gain? Jesus forgave many prostitutes and tax collectors only because they had faith in Him. They were persuaded by His Divine Mercy to amend their lives and repent of their misdeeds. Nowhere in the Bible did these forgiven sinners seek to gain by destroying other s reputations. They had a true sense of shame that lead them to rejoin the Church and then show mercy to those enslaved in the same sinful lifestyles without gossip. Notice that the woman at the well did not mention who her five husbands were. It is the Devil that never ceases to destroy. It is Jesus that always seeks to save, not just for now, but especially for Heaven. Jesus wants us to create now a harmony in the world with everyone. But is is not just for this world, but for the Kingdom that is to come. This is what Easter is all about. No matter how big our sins are, He only looks to us to repent and make our present lives on earth better, but even more, to prepare a place for us in Paradise. Maybe today we can shut off the TV and count our blessing and spend time with our family and celebrate what we have made of our own domestic church. May we dedicate this year by starting a devotion to the Holy Family and praying for a successful completion of the Synod on Youth this October. Fr. Euk Scripture Meditation "John saw the empty tomb and believed" What was it like for the disciple who had stood at the cross of Jesus and then laid him in a tomb on Good Friday, to come back three days later and discover that the sealed tomb was now empty? John, along with Peter, was the first apostle to reach the tomb of Jesus on Easter Sunday morning. Like Mary Magdalene and the other disciples, John was not ready to see an empty tomb and to hear the angel's message, Why do you seek the living among the dead (Luke 24:5)? What did John see in the tomb that led him to believe in the resurrection of Jesus? It was certainly not a dead body. The dead body of Jesus would have disproven the resurrection and made his death a tragic conclusion to a glorious career as a great teacher and miracle worker. When John saw the empty tomb. he must have recalled Jesus' prophecy that he would rise again after three days. Through the gift of faith John realized that no tomb on earth could contain the Lord and giver of life. John saw and believed.

I have come to understand so many things, and even such that now amaze me. Oh, how good it is to abandon oneself totally to God and to give Him full freedom to act in one s soul! (134, page 74) This Saturday March 31, at 2 PM we begin our 9 day novena leading up to Divine Mercy Sunday on April 8 at 2 PM. Take some time to quietly and reflectively contemplate both God s Mercy and your own inner burdens. Try to imagine them meeting within the sanctuary of your soul. Let the Mercy of God fuse with any misery you experience in life and, in that act, you will be allowing God to do what He longs to do.
