2 Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time 10 September 2017 Saint Luke Church, Whitestone, New York From the Pastor-- For where two or three are gathered together in my name then am I in the midst of them. (Matthew 18:15-20) Once again we gather together in the name of Jesus to begin a new pastoral year. Of course summer passes too quickly, yet hopefully with good memories of needed rest and relaxation. Now begins the routine that fills our daily living - lived not alone but with the Lord Jesus who promises to be in our midst. A new year begins filled with hopes and joys and challenges. We live in hope of the goodness of the Lord who is our way, our truth and our life. Pope Francis in his writings and talks challenges us to be missionary disciples - a disciple who is on a mission; a disciple of the Lord who had encountered the life and love of Christ; a missionary who desires to share the Lord with others. Sounds difficult? Not really - we are true missionary disciples every time we share the gift of Jesus - in word and act, in small ways and big ways. What joy awaits the disciple in mission. Welcome back to all our parishioners. Many parish groups have already begun meeting and our parish school has opened this past week; this coming week the Religious Education Program will welcome back the boys and girls in public school. The parish is alive again with the sounds of a church alive and active. What a joy! God bless you! Let us pray for one another, WE NEED YOUR HELP!! During the summer months of July and August the weekly collection is less than the rest of the year. Now that the summer months are over, consider sending in your weekly donations missed while you were away or on vacation. 3 RELIC OF SAINT JUDE TO VISIT SAINT LUKE CHURCH September 19, PM Mass, Saint Jude Devotion and Veneration of Arm Relic of Saint Jude Saint Luke Church is happy to announce it will host the Dominican Shrine of Saint Jude Thaddeus in Chicago for a special Saint Jude Blessing Mass on Tuesday, September 19 at 7pm. Fr. Mike Ford, O.P. the director of the Shrine, will lead a unique evening which will include Saint Jude devotions, Mass, and a special blessing with the Oil of Saint Jude Thaddeus. The Arm Relic is known to be the largest relic of one of 12 apostles outside of Rome. Saint Jude Oil will be available after the blessings. The first collection is for the support of the parish. The second collection is for the support of Catholic Education. Your generosity to both collections is greatly appreciated. SAVE THE DATE-- The St. Vincent de Paul Society is sponsoring a clothing drive on Sunday, September 17th. The truck will be parked in the church parking lot from 8am to 1pm to accept your donation of gently used clothing. 17 BAPTISM PROGRAM When preparing for the Baptism of your child, parents must attend a Pre-Baptism Class. Godparents are welcome and encouraged to attend. The class is held once a month usually on the third Monday night of the month at 7:30pm. The Baptismal Liturgy is usually celebrated on the second and fourth Sunday of the month at 3pm. No Baptism can take place until the church receives a copy of the child s Birth Certificate as required by the diocese.
