At the St. Kevin Catholic Academy Christmas concert you were presented with a check for $46,000 from the Academy (thanks to the hard work of parents & others through school fund raisers). I am interested in knowing if this money will be used for repairs to the school and not to the Church. A. One of the purposes of this column is to correct misinformation. Certainly, this is a clear case of not knowing the facts and, so, I am happy to clarify this matter for you. At the St. Kevin Academy Christmas concert a check was presented to Dr. Thomas Piro, the Principal of the Academy, representing the hard work of parents and others through fund raising. The check was NOT presented to me, as Pastor of St. Kevin Church. The money that was raised is for Academy operating expenses (a certain amount is budgeted from fund raising). The money will NOT be used for repairs to the Academy and certainly NOT to the Church. The repairs to the Academy and to the Church will be taken care of in a different way, soon to be announced. I hope this information is helpful. Easter Gift to St. Kevin Church The Easter Gift to the church takes place next weekend, April 8th and 9th. The Easter season, when we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior, provides us with a wonderful opportunity to make a special offering to our parish, the hub of our lives as Catholics. A special Easter Gift to the parish helps in many ways. There are physical needs; operating costs continue to rise; and as you all are well aware, parish programs need continual funding. Please consider an Easter Gift to St. Kevin Church of whatever your means will allow. While proponents call these bills death with dignity and patient self-determination, in reality they are unnecessary, flawed and dangerous. Legalizing assisted suicide would endanger elderly, disabled and vulnerable people. It will send the message to others that suicide is acceptable and lead to an increase in suicides. It will leave people with depression and other mental illnesses untreated. And it will turn doctors and other health professionals fro healers into killers. For information, please call Augustine at or Christine at Stewardship Thought Jesus called to his friend from the dead, Lazarus, come out! It is the same call our Lord makes to us unceasingly: come out! Jesus calls us from our tomb of doubt and unbelief, from the darkness of our fear ad anxieties; from the depths of our weaknesses and lack of hope. Christian stewards pray for an open heart, so that they may hear the voice of the Lord, heed the continuous call to come away from their former way of living and reprioritize their lives in the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Do we believe Christ has the power to transform our lives? Do we take time to listed to His call? With the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption. Lenten Schedule 1) Stations of the Cross will be prayed in the Church on Friday evening April 7th, at 7P.M. 2) The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated on Saturday, April 8th at 4:00 P.M. in the Church. Thank you for your support of St. Kevin Church! Give Glory to God On the Fifth Sunday of Lent, just before we begin to enter Holy Week, we are summoned to Bethany. If we had been friends of Mary, Lazarus, and Martha, and found out that Lazarus was gravely ill, we probably would have dropped everything to be with them. This was what was so surprising about the behavior of Jesus. Although he was their close friend, he chose to stay away, that God s glory would be manifested. This is a persistent theme in John s Gospel. Right to the very end, Jesus works were meant to give glory to the Father. As our Lenten journey reaches a crescendo, let us be mindful that, as people who have put on Christ in baptism, we are also called, by our attitudes and actions, to give glory to God.
