Yes, as you read this bulletin, I am, hopefully, in the Seminary of the Archdiocese of Chicago for a week long retreat (January 2-8). I am with all the Bishops of the United States, at the request of Pope Francis. He has sent the preacher of the Papal Household to give the retreat. Please be assured of my prayers during the retreat for you and all the other parishioners of St. Kevin parish. May I ask for a prayer from you for me and my brother bishops? Thank you. And also, please know that we pray for you every morning in our Rectory Chapel as we pray the Office of Readings and Morning Prayer. The public prayer of the church - known as the Liturgy of the Hours - is a requirement for all the ordained to pray. We always keep you and your intentions in our prayers and at Mass. It is the only way we can repay you for your generosity of time, talent and treasure to St. Kevin Parish. Thank you for all you do! For additional information, please contact St. Anastasia Church at Stewardship Thought: In today s second reading we hear Saint Paul teach the community at Ephesus that God s revelation had come, not just to their community, but to others as well; that a broader community of believers was being allowed to exercise stewardship over the Good News. Good stewards recognize that it is in our life together as a Eucharistic community that we find ever new vistas and insights into God s vast universe of love and mercy. If we take time to listen to one another, we discover stories of faith beyond our own. Pause this week to converse with others, listen to their prayers, and observe acts of kindness and generosity. See if you can gain an understanding of God and the world that you have not experienced or known before. 9 Days for Life January 14th - January 2nd Leading up to the Annual Day of Prayer for the legal protection of Unborn Children on January 22nd, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Pro-Life Activities sponsors a nationwide Novena called 9 Days for Life. This year, the Novena runs from Monday, January 14th to Tuesday, January 22nd. 6 January 6, 2019 The Epiphany of the Lord Page 6 Finding God The splendid magi, all sparkle and dash and solemnity, march right up off the pages of Matthew s Gospel and into our churches today. Matthew alone tells us this grand and seductive story so that we might see the light and know that the child these magi visited is the fulfillment of prophecy, the king of the world that stretches to the magi s home country and beyond, right down the ages to us. We too see and understand anew. Like the magi, our patron saints for this day, we see in the newborn child the king of the universe and light of the world. Like the magi, we find in ourselves a new faith and a new life. Like them, we return to our home by a new route. We are asked to come away from this festive season ourselves renewed and awake to the presence of God among us. We are asked to find God where God is to be found, to be attentive and surprised and ready to bow down in adoration and to offer our gifts.
