2 September 10, 2017 St. Kevin R.C. Church Page 2 Dear Bishop Ray: Q. You seem to be pushing hard for enrollment in the St. Kevin Catholic Academy and also in the Faith Formation Program. How many children are currently enrolled? What can we do to help? A. As the bulletin goes to press, we have 324 children enrolled in the Academy and 132 children enrolled in the Faith Formation Program. I truly believe there are many more children who are not participating in either program. You can help by continuing to be a witness to your faith and also by encouraging family, friends and neighbors to register their children for these programs which help our young parishioners to know and understand their faith. Attention St. Kevin Senior Club Members Our first meeting of our senior club will be on Tuesday, September 12th, from 1:30 to 4:30 P.M. in the Msgr. Finnerty Parish Center. We are having a trip to Empire City Casino on Wednesday, September 27th. Your cost is $25 and you will receive the package of the day. For reservations, please call Sam at The Girl Scouts will sponsor a Defensive Driving class to be held on two Tuesday evenings, September 26th and October 3rd, from 7 to 10 P.M. in the Parish Center Kitchen. You have told us that the harvest is rich and laborers are few and we experience this great need in the face of the challenge of the New Evangelization. Remembering When Jesus broke the bread on the night before he died, he told his disciples, do this in memory of me (Luke 22:19). Christians have been faithful to that solemn command. Our Eucharistic remembering is not nostalgia, nor is it merely historical, recalling events and facts of long ago. In the liturgy, remembering is action. Do this, Jesus said. In the Eucharist, we remember by doing. And as we remember, the sacrifice of Jesus is renewed, truly made present, no longer then, but now. After the consecration, each of the Eucharistic Prayers includes a section called the anamnesis, a Greek word that means remembering. In this part of the prayer, the Church, fulfilling the command that she received from Christ the Lord through the Apostles, keeps the memorial of Christ, recalling especially his blessed Passion, glorious Resurrection, and Ascension into heaven (General Instruction of the Roman Missal, 79e). We pause and call to mind the whole paschal mystery, Christ s dying and rising. We celebrate the memory of his death and resurrection (Eucharistic Prayer for Reconciliation II). Obeying Christ s command, we remember. A Virtus Training Workshop will be offered at St. Kevin in the Finnerty Parish Center on Saturday, October 14th, from 9AM to 12 Noon. This workshop is mandatory for anyone who works with children i.e., coaches, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, lectors, teachers, catechists, ushers, etc. To register for the workshop go to You must register online before attending the workshop. Who can receive the Sacrament of Anointing? 1) Those who will undergo surgery; 2) the elderly; 3) those suffering from long-term illness; 4) children who are chronically ill. All are encouraged to come and encounter the healing power of God through the prayers and support of the gathered community.
