2 July 8, 2018 Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 2 Parish News Q. I noticed that there were only five men who were ordained to the Priesthood for the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens, on June 30. What is the diocese doing to promote vocations? A. While we had only five men ordained on June 30, I believe we will see great things from them in their ministry - we rely on the Grace of God to lead them! As to promoting vocations, we are currently praying, throughout this Year for Vocations, that the Lord will open the hearts and minds of men and women to discern a possible vocation. We have a vocation team here at St. Kevin that prays diligently for an increase in vocations. If you would like to join this team, please contact Agnes Rus in the Faith Formation Office. And, on a diocesan level, we have vocation directors that go to parishes to preach about vocations, they post opportunities on the diocesan social media outlets to invite men and women to retreat days, lectures, conferences, etc. Above that, we need all our parishioners to not only pray, but to show witness to how God has blessed them and continues to lead them. The best way to promote vocations is to plant the seed in someone you may think has a vocation. We are the hands and feet of God on earth, let us lead others in experiencing what God is leading them to do in His Church. Vocation Awareness - Living Holy Lives

Parish & Community Events Summer Sports Program Update Thank you to all those who supported the Summer Sports Program during the Father s Day Weekend s Bake Sale! It was a huge success as we sold out of all of our items! Whether you bought cookies, or simply left a donation, thank you! With the money raised new sports equipment was purchased along with ice cold drinks to keep everyone hydrated. The program is now in full swing with almost 30 youth registered for the program. There have been many intense games of kickball, blitz-ball, ultimate Frisbee, soccer and much more! Registration is still open and it is not too late for teens to come and join in the fun. There is still a chance for anyone to take home the trophy, so do not miss your chance to win. Come join us July 10 th, 12 th, 17 th, and 19 th 6:30 to 9:00 pm. 5 Page 5 Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 8, 2018 Virtus Cer fica on for all Employees and Volunteers of the Church The Diocese of Brooklyn mandates that all church employees and volunteers ages 13 and older are to complete a cer fica on in child protec on. In order to be employed or to volunteer for the church, you must be cer fied in one of the two cer fica ons. Please go to to register and enroll in the program according to your age group: 1) For Adults 18 years of age and older; The VIRTUS program for adults is a three-hour live awareness session that instructs adults of the Church that to protect children you must have con nuous awareness and vigilance. This awareness session helps trainees understand signs of child sexual abuse, the methods and means by which offenders commit abuse, and five empowerment steps to prevent child sexual abuse. 2) For Adolescents ages 13-17; In the fall of 2017 Shield the Vulnerable closed it's pla orm and was no longer available for teens to be trained. The Diocese will now be launching a new online program for teens called Healthy Rela onships. This program is generated by Virtus.

For additional information, please call St. Anastasia Church at Proper Summer Attire Summer is here and with it, hot weather. This usually means a different form of dress. Casual and light is the order of the day. However, we ask everyone to consider what exactly is appropriate for Sunday Mass. Sunday Mass is a sacred event. We gather in a special place (air conditioned), in the presence of God and one another, to do the most sacred thing we can do offer the Sacrifice of Christ to the Father. Certainly, such an event calls for the greatest degree of reverence and our attitude, shown in our dress, should be one of profound respect. How would you go to a family member s July wedding? Sunday Mass is far more significant. Shorts, cut-off jeans, tank tops, athletic shirts/ shorts and the like are not appropriate. Please, before setting out to church, ask yourself: does what I am wearing show respect for where I am going and tell everyone how I feel about this sacred action? Mustard Seed Nicaragua Mission of St. Kevin The St. Kevin's Nicaragua Mission Team wishes to express its deepest gratitude to the people of the parish for their extraordinary generosity last weekend.
