6 SACRAMENTAL CELEBRATIONS -- In addition to the many Masses celebrated and the many other acts of prayer and worship to our God, in the month of February we celebrated as a parish community: CONGRATULATIONS -- Please keep this couple in your prayers as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Marriage here in our parish. To those parishioners to remember to mention Saint Luke Church when donating their unused vehicles to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul. For every car, truck or van, running or not, The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will give back to our church $75/$200 per vehicle. On March 2nd we received a check in the amount of $100 representing a donation of a vehicle made by one of our parishioners to The Society. Novena of Thirteen Tuesdays in Honor of Saint Anthony of Padua The annual Novena in preparation for the June 13th feast of Saint Anthony will begin on Tuesday, March 14th immediately following the 12 noon Mass. The Novena will continue every Tuesday, until the celebration of Saint Anthony s feast day - Tuesday, June 13th. Page 5

7 LENTEN SOUP SUPPER This past Saturday, March 4th, our Youth Group once again had their fantastic Lenten Soup Night. It was a wonderful evening spent by all. Parishioners and friends were enjoying each other s company, conversing and of course enjoying the twenty-three selections of soups. We also had bread, biscuits and crackers. The finale was the table full of sweets. The wonderful youth of our parish were at their best serving the soup. They served with a smile and thanking people who came to the event. I want to sincerely thank the parents, parishioners and friends who donated and took the time to make these delicious soups, as well as donations of goodies. Also, I want to thank all those who attended the soup night for your generosity toward the free will offering. We were able to raise a total of $ A big thank you! The proceeds from the donations will go to two food pantries of the local area (community). St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church and Grace Episcopal Church in Whitestone. Each food pantry will receive check in the amount of $ A special thanks goes to our local businesses who donated goodies. They are as follows: Key Food and Marino s. Finally, I want to thank our Youth Group Leadership who makes all these events happen. Through their dedication and hard work the youth in our parish are recognized and help them grow in their faith in a life of service to others and to enrich their own personal lives. 8 MISSION STATEMENT As a community of believers in Jesus Christ and in Communion with the universal church, we strive to follow the Lord s command to love God and one another. Rooted in word and sacrament, we grow together as a Eucharistic community inviting all to the Good News of Jesus. BAPTISM PROGRAM When preparing for the Baptism of your child, parents must attend a Pre-Baptism Class. Godparents are welcome and encouraged to attend. The class is held once a month usually on the third Monday night of the month at 7:30pm. The Baptismal Liturgy is usually celebrated on the second and fourth Sunday of the month at 3pm. No Baptism can take place until the church receives a copy of the child s Birth Certificate as required by the diocese. If you are planning a Baptism, please note the following dates: Baptism Class Baptism Sunday March 13 March 26 April 24 April 2 & 30 May 8 May 7 & 21 June 19 June 11 & 25 When considering godparents, please understand that a Godparent should: 1. be a firm and enthusiastic believer, ready, willing, and able to help his or her godchild live a Christian life. 2. be at least sixteen years old. 3. lead a life in harmony with the faith and the role to be undertaken. 4. have received all three Sacraments: Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. 5. not be the child s parent. LUKE SCHOOL NEWS -- Dental Awareness Month (February) St. Luke s Second Grade students were visited by two class moms, Sandra Barone, R.D.H. and Rosalie Bonaventura, R.D.A. to demonstrate the importance of dental hygiene, nutrition, and the maintenance of their teeth. Dental care kits were provided by Dr. Vito G. Clarizio, D.M.D. Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! Mrs. Kenny s class does not have any children with birthdays in the month of March, so we were so happy to get to celebrate Dr. Seuss birthday on March 2 nd. We read The Foot Book and did a fun painting craft to go with the book that we hung outside our classroom. Next, we made a pretend birthday cake for Dr. Seuss using red pipe cleaner pieces for candles that we lit with gold glitter glue! We each decorated our cake differently since we are each special with our own unique ideas. We loved wearing crazy and silly socks and playing Dr. Seuss games on our classroom smartboard.
