3 January 29, Next week we look forward to a stimulating video presentation in Church on the Catholic Ministry Appeal. In addition to the brief video put out by the diocese, our Chairperson Pat Brennan will introduce this year s (2017) Appeal. We have never failed to reach our goal and in addition to doing our part to help the many programs the diocese offers, we receive a substantial rebate (about $20,000) for use in the Parish! Thank you in advance for your amazingly generous response. Our goal has been raised up only slightly, so any increase you can make in your pledge becomes chiefly (80%) a donation to the Parish! Thank you again! Lent is just around the corner (Ash Wednesday is in the beginning of March) and you may be asking yourself already, what you will do this year. The Parish is providing just the right thing! Arise, Together in Christ starts up again for the six weeks of Lent! Consider joining a group! Remember this is Faith-Sharing. That is your faith as experienced by you and you re listening and profiting from the sharing of others. There is set content and flow to each meeting (in homes and lasting about 1 hour and 15 minutes). The program is not the same as bible study, nor is it group therapy, sensitivity training or open-ended discussion! Renew International sponsors the process and helps us train our facilitators! January 29 Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time: In the Gospel today Jesus gives us the Beatitudes, which embody a radically alternative vision of life and we find that God indeed calls us to blessedness. This month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to proclaim the good news of the kingdom to the poor, by assisting families by providing food and money for utility and rent bills. Plaques will remain on display for the time subscribed and may be renewed or rededicated for additional six or twelve month periods. The offering for each candle is $60 for 6 months or $100 for 12 months per name, which will support the work and needs of St. Francis Parish. 6 January 29, The St. Josephs Council 4810 of Greenlawn will be hosting a Cocktail Party to raise money for Birthright of Long Island. It will take place on February 19th from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the community room at St. Francis Church on Clay Pits Road in Greenlawn. This annual event is important to this wonderful organization which helps young mothers, their infant children and provides a host of other services to help young women in need. There is no cost to attend, but please bring a donation of new baby items or a monetary donation for Birthright. There will be a presentation, food and drink, so come join us for a good time doing a great thing for Birthright. Call for Volunteers Long Island Handicapped Encounter Christ (HEC) is in need of volunteers for its annual retreat which will be held on Thursday, April 27,2017 through Sunday April 30, 2017 at Camp Alvernia in Centerport, NY. HEC is a program that provides retreat opportunities that celebrate life, nurture faith and offer support for persons 18 years and older with special needs. HEC retreats provide an environment which persons with disabilities and able-bodied friends step away from their usual routines and enjoy a prayerful experience of song, talks and medications, group sharing, Eucharist and many other joyful moments. The shared experiences of the retreat often develop into relationships of mutual support. There are many volunteer roles to be filled. We are in need of team members, kitchen help, setting up and taking down the camp, as well as drivers for our candidates. Our first planning meeting will take place on Monday, February 13th at 7:00pm at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Greenlawn we invite you to come hear what we are all about. Two follow-up meetings are planned for Tuesday March 14th and Tuesday April 11th. Thank you BREAST CANCER SUPPORT GROUP St. Patrick s Church, 400 Main Street, Huntington Group meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 pm in the Rectory basement. We are a group of women who have been afflicted with this disease and we meet to lend support to one another through our difficult times.
