(Regular Sunday Offertory) March 3rd s weekly offering: $8, Last year s weekly offering: $8, In this week s Sunday reading, we learn from Abraham that we can-and should -trust in God. St. Paul mentions Abraham s faith because it is a model for us as Christians, especially in these challenging times. Today we also celebrate the feast of St. Patrick, a man who despite living in a hostile and dangerous environment, accepted suffering and success with equal measure. By placing his faith in God, Patrick was able to live out his missionary call to evangelize Ireland. In so doing, he exemplified his formation as a disciple. This week s Gospel is about Formation. God is forming us to be His disciples-do not be afraid! Listen to His call and trust in His will. As He guides us through life s problems, allow God to form you, like Patrick, into His disciple. He will if you let Him! March 17: Second Sunday of Lent Lent is a call not just to give up something but more important to give something for the poor. Wherever you live in the parish, there are poor families within walking distance of your home. When in need, they ring the rectory bell. They are, in effect, ringing your doorbell. Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the suffering and poor. Daniel Fleischmann, St. Martin s Bethpage to Cristina Dora Viteritti, St. Francis of Assisi RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults During the 10 am Mass on the First Sunday of Lent, March 10, 2019, we celebrated the Rite of Sending for our catechumens, Erica and John Brown. The Rite of Sending is a Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) that invites godparents, sponsors and the assembly to pray for the catechumens being sent for election by the bishop. During the Rite of Election later that Sunday at St Anne in Brentwood, Erica and John confirmed to bishop Barres their desire to receive the sacraments of initiation. Bishop Barres then declared them to be members of the elect and explained the significance of the enrollment that had just taken place when Erica and John, among others, entered their names in the Book of the Elect. We, as a community, pray for Erica and John that in the weeks ahead, and especially during the RCIA rites of Scrutiny, that they may have the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit and be initiated into the sacred mysteries at the next Easter Vigil, to fully enter into the life of the Church.

7 March 17, Our 40 Days for Life Campaign will begin on Friday, March 8th with 25 St. Francis parishioners keeping vigil outside of the Planned Parenthood on Maple Avenue, Smithtown. They will be present for each of the Fridays in Lent. (3/8, 3/15, 3/22. 3/29, 4/5 and 4/12). 26 St. Francis parishioners have donated an holy hour of prayer at 6:30pm here at the church. This sacrificial act will continue throughout the Wednesdays during Lent, (3/13, 3/20, 3/27, 4/3, 4/10).Anyone can join us at any of the listed times, even if you had not signed up yet. An open invitation to the men of St. Francis of Assisi: It doesn t matter what age you are: 20,30,40 or older because in our society today, many men cannot find the time in their busy lives to grow in their spirituality. The men s retreat offers a way to spend some special time with other men in growing in our Catholic faith. The retreat begins on Friday, April 5, 2018 at 7:00pm with dinner and prayer and ends Sunday, April 7th after the 11:00am Mass. The retreat offers men a special time and place to experience God s peace and graces in their lives. The retreat is held at the Passionist Retreat House located in Jamaica Estates, all meals are served in the dining room, all retreatants have their own private bedroom, bathrooms are only steps away.
