3 February 11, Bishop Barres continues to speak about and invite us all to implement his now famous program of dramatic missionary growth. He himself as our bishop is certainly doing his part. Recently he appointed a Director of the Office of Charismatic Renewal (on a part-time basis). The position has been vacant for a while and everyone in the diocese who is involved in Charismatic Prayer welcomes Phil Mandato. He will be carrying out the much needed work of identifying various prayer groups around the diocese and alerting people to the times and places of these meetings. Phil is also planning larger regional events - last Friday right here at St. Francis we celebrated a Jubilee Mass commemorating 50 years of blessings for God s people through Charismatic Renewal. We look forward to continued blessings in the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit for a new Jubilee of 50 years! St. Francis will host a monthly regional charismatic prayer meeting. The next one will be March 16 th at 7:00pm in the Lower Church. In this way, younger people who have not experienced the power of praise and worship in a larger group setting will hopefully be able to experience it. Older people who pioneered prayer groups in the 1970 s and 1980 s are coming together again and talking with one another. All this is a great blessing to our diocese. Also, Bishop Barres has now hired a Young Adult Ministry Coordinator. We are looking forward to working with him in many different ways. He will be able to help us by getting out the word about our Coffee House and hopefully we will be able to assist him in the various island wide activities that he is planning. Please keep all these initiatives in your prayers, they re very important. Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who use their gifts to welcome and offer hospitality to those who are frequently shunned.the stranger, the immigrant, the homeless, the physically and/or mentally ill and the poor. February 11-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time: In the Gospel today Jesus moved with pity touched the leper and healed him. Let us pray today for the grace to be generous with our gifts to help those who are suffering. By your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you indeed put your faith into action as you bring healing to the poor, hungry and weeping. THIS SHARED EXPERIENCE SO OFTEN CREATES LASTING FRIENDSHIPS AND MUTUAL SUPPORT. On February 18, 2018 a collection will be taken for The Church in Need. The monies collected at this time will be shared among three areas of the world where there is particular need for help: Church in Central and Eastern Europe - the Collection provides support for basic pastoral programs and makes scholarships available for students studying to serve their local church. These students become vital participants in the renewal of the Church in the region. The Church in Latin America faces many difficult challenges. Natural disasters in many areas caused lasting damage to the Church, while a significant loss of parishioners to migration and to other faiths, the inability to support itself financially, and a lack of priests and religious to help effectively minister to the large number of Catholics continue to trouble the region. The Church in Africa the funds will go to assisting African countries where poverty, sickness and political strife prevent people from living in dignity.
