3 September 30, Youth Ministry Most parishioners heard the entertaining introductory message from Marian Zahra and Frank Maiello. They presented themselves in an appealing way and announced that the Youth Ministry would begin this weekend at 6:30pm in the lower church. They were also here most of Thursday night; the telephoned all of our 9 th and 10 th graders - the young people had already received in the mail an invitation to the first meeting. Please keep this very important ministry in your prayers. Our young people are our future. You ve heard that cliché before, but the bottom line is: every parish needs and wants to reach out to the kids. With your help and good will, here s our chance! Apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima and Our Lady of America, both approved by the Church, promise that special devotion to our Lady and her Rosary will bring untold blessings and peace to individuals, families and nations. The United States of America is consecrated to Our Lady under the title of the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION. It is through Her intercession that America will be saved and Grace restored to this Land. Please Join us on Tuesday evenings between 7:00-7:30pm at St. Francis of Assisi Church to invoke Our Lady s intercession for the United States of America EWTN Announces New "Novena to the Mother Of God for the Nation" Bishops to Lead Novena Prayers on Network Irondale, Alabama, Sept. 13, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EWTN Global Catholic Network has collaborated with one of the pre-eminent Marian theologians in the U.S. on the creation of a new "Novena to the Mother of God for the Nation." Fr. Frederick Miller, Chair of the Department of Systematic Theology at Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg, Md., composed the meditations and prayers which invoke Mary's intercession for our nation. The Novena will be prayed publicly beginning on the Feast of the Archangels, Saturday, September 29 through October 7, the Feast of the Most Holy Rosary. "Catholics have always turned instinctively for help to the Mother of God in times of need," says Fr. Miller. "And so, in 2012, we turn to Our Lady for help. Many of the values that have shaped our country from the beginning seem to be at risk. The Novena is available in both English and Spanish and can be downloaded for free from EWTN's Novena website at RCIA - What is it? RCIA is a journey of faith. It is a gradual process that takes place within the community of the faithful. It is focused on conversion, whereby the candidates enter into an extended period of formation and conversion through prayer and reflection on Sacred Scripture. It is also a communal journey in which the church community ritually celebrates conversion at various points during the candidate s journey as they pass, so to speak, through another doorway or ascend to the next level. The RCIA is not a program but a sacramental process in which candidates are fully initiated into the Catholic faith. Who is it for? Christian Initiation is for youths and adults who: Want to learn more about the Catholic Church. Attend the Catholic Church with a spouse or loved one, and are not sure about joining, but are open to exploring the question. Are not baptized and want to become Catholic Christians through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Are baptized Christians who seek full initiation in the Roman Catholic Church through the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. How does it work? God calls and we respond. With the process of Christian Initiation, women and men at all stages of the faith journey come together in a relaxed and informal atmosphere to learn from 7:30 to 9:00 PM on a weekday evening. Volunteer catechists take turns leading sessions regarding Catholic beliefs and practices. A portion of each meeting is dedicated to studying the Scripture readings as well. Throughout the course of the RCIA there are special times of prayer known as rites, when participants receive the prayers, blessing, and support of the larger parish community. Most new Catholics are received into the Church at the Easter Vigil. What is the first step? Contact the parish rectory to learn more. Canned goods that are traditional for Thanksgiving - yams, cranberry sauce, coffee, peas, carrots, etc. can be dropped off at any time in the Church vestibule.
