2 September 18, Mission Statement: St. Francis of Assisi Parish is a Christ-centered family of believers, celebrating Christ alive in our lives through the inspiration of the Gospel, church teachings and traditions and the Sacraments. We are sensitive to the spiritual and temporal needs of God s people, acknowledging their uniqueness and dignity and are dedicated to reaching out and serving them through prayer, liturgical celebrations and social ministries. Guided by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Holy Eucharist, we welcome all people with, respect and compassion. We are vigilant in protecting the rights of the most vulnerable. 3 September 18, We warmed up the engine and now we put her in gear. If we were automobile mechanics by trade, this would be an apt image for what has happened here this week at St. Francis. With the opening of Religious Education, the calling of our first meeting of the Pastoral Council and other groups and all the prep work for the festival, we can make no mistake summer is over and it s really down-to-business and we were actually thinking it was already a busy summer! Those letters about the festival should have reached you by now. Thank you in advance for responding so favorably to our requests to attend the festival, to purchase the Grand Raffle tickets and if possible to volunteer to help out with the festival as a volunteer on the field. Tell one and all about the festival. As far as festivals go, we are a new kid on the block but we already have some unique features Animal Show, Prayer Tents, Haitian Food, etc. and all the special home-grown music and all the things you come to expect at a feast great rides, good ol favorite foods, games, special events, etc. TWO IMPORTANT ITEMS 1. In the Baptistery corner, next to the statue of Mary we have contracted with a company for the construction of shelves containing electric memorial candles. If you purchase a candle for a year ($200) or 6 months ($120) we will affix a plaque with your loved ones name. The candle will burn 24 hours a day, every day for the regimented time. More information will soon be provided. Here is a beautiful way to remember a loved one and to be prompted to pray for them. (Call the rectory for details). 2. Watch for more information about our fall census program drive through our envelope company (F.J. Remey). Every resident within our parish boundaries will receive a very discreet letter asking them to tell us if any Catholics reside there. This will be phase 1 of a more comprehensive census plan we our implementing here at St. Francis to better serve our parishioners!

Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time: In today s Gospel Jesus tells us a parable to teach us how great God is and how generous, and then he calls us to do this same greatness and generosity. As you put your gift in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul s poor box, know that you are showing the generosity of God to those who are suffering and poor. An Evening of Renewal Preaching & Prayer with Healing Celebrant Fr. Ozele at St. Francis Wednesday, Sept. 28th 7:30pm Is anyone among you suffering? He should pray. Is anyone in good spirits? He should sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbyters of the church and they should pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord and prayer of faith will save the sick person and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed any sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The New Translation of the Roman Missal Implementation Date: November 27, 2011 (2 nd Sunday of Advent) Segment #17 A few important changes have been made in the translation of the Creed normally recited (or sung) at Mass (commonly called the Nicene Creed). The content of our belief, of course, is absolutely the same; the changes bring out important nuances. Until now we have been saying in English We believe in one God; with the new translation we say I believe in one God brings us into conformity with the rest of the Church throughout the world. In Latin the traditional opening word of the Creed is in the singular Credo- I believe. Even in a great Mass in St. Peter s Square in Rome when thousands of people from all over the world have gathered, the sung Creed begins Credo I believe in one God. This singular makes the Creed more personal (I speak for myself even in this crowd) and challenging (I must make this Creed, this faith my own). We must interiorize this faith. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states it well, I believe -expresses the faith of the Church professed personally by each believer. This is precisely what we are doing when we renew our baptismal promises at the Easter Vigil or when we attend a family or parish baptism. The priest asks the congregation, Do you believe in God the Father? Do you believe in Jesus Christ? In the Holy Spirit? Each person however answers for himself and says I do!. It is fitting that we often make a similar personal act of faith when we use the singular I believe at the Creed of the Mass.
