3 August 7, St. Francis Of Assisi Mission Collection It was a joy to welcome Deacon John Rieger to speak at all Masses on behalf of the Diocesan Mission in the Dominican Republic. The collection is required by the diocese every two years in every parish, but Deacon John s coming over was special. I had taught him as a prep seminarian years ago and Msgr. Batule and he played on the seminary college basketball team together. It was a nostalgic moment. The parish responded very well to his appeal and to his presentation. We collected well over $4,000 on behalf of the Mission. The entire amount will be sent to our Mission office to support its work with local people. Booster Club The 2 nd Annual Booster Club membership drive is now well in progress! We plan to give away over $10,000 in prizes in weekly and monthly drawings during the course of the year s membership. Join now- you can purchase as many $50.00 memberships as you wish. They make great gifts! Remember your ticket (membership) remains active for the entire year- you can win more than once even several times. 6 August 7, A 4-hour Pro-Life Message Workshop will be offered by the LICL Educational Trust on Saturday, Aug. 13, 11am at the K of C Hall, 45 Heitz Place, just east of the Hicksville LIRR Station. Registration is $20; $30 per couple; Lunch and materials are included. RSVP You will learn speaking skills to articulate pro-life positions, defend the unborn, and answer pro-abortion questions. Please remember the Poor Boxes located in the church during the summer months. Your help is still needed! IMPORTANT NOTICE August 15th is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary; however still it falls on a Monday and is not a Holyday of Obligation. However many are devoted to Mary and so we added a 7:30 pm Mass of the Assumption for the convenience of working people. Mass Times: 8:30am & 7:30pm The daily work of the Life Center of Long Island doesn t stop during these hot vacation months. Their major event is the 18th annual Dinner Dance on Thursday, Oct. 20th at the Coral House. Bishop Libasci is the guest Speaker, and they will be honoring their chaplain, Fr. Frank Nuss on his 50th Anniversary of priesthood; Mother Agnes, Director of Sisters of Life; and our parishioner Ob/Gyn Dr. Robert Scanlon. Please mark your calendars; this event is a major fund-raiser for the center. If you have questions, call The New Translation of the Roman Missal Implementation Date: November 27, 2011 (2 nd Sunday of Advent) Segment #11 There are supported changes in the Mass parts. We all (priests and people) need to learn new responses and also new musical settings. Also we will hear the priest using liturgical phases that are a bit different from what we have been hearing for 40 years. Here we have a time of transition we need to learn new responses but also to reflect on and share the meaning of the liturgy. We need to deepen our understanding of the Eucharist as: 1. The sacrificial memorial of Christ s death on the cross 2. The real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist 3. The close union we have with Our Lord in Holy Communion These changes are a special opportunity to understand the meaning of the prayers and rituals of the liturgy. The better we really get hold of the meaning of what we say and do in the Mass, the more we will be able to offer ourselves to God in the liturgy and truly meet him in these most holy mysteries!

7 August 7, Put on then, as God s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a grievance against another; as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do. And over all these put on love, that is, the bond of perfection. Colossians 3: RESPECT LIFE NEWS Are you planning to travel? Are you just returning from a trip? Do you have the little toiletries the hotels give out and do not need them? Our Baby Corner has many families asking for shampoo, soaps, and other toiletries. Some of our friends save free samples as well as toiletries from their travels for our families. Often we bring small bags of soaps, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, etc. along with the diapers and wipes on our home visits. If you have these items to donate, you may place them in our white crib. Always we thank Our Lord through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Francis for your love and generosity for our precious babies and their families. Be sure to pause in front of the beautiful image of Our Lady of Guadalupe that hangs next to the little white crib in our Baby Corner. We know of answered prayers for moms praying for a baby through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Unborn. Also, read about St. Gianna Beretta Molla, a modern advocate for life saint. Our St. Francis of Assisi Baby Corner especially needs Huggies, Pampers, and Luv s diapers sizes 3, 4, 5, and 6, unscented baby wipes, unscented baby wash and baby coupons (which stretch our funds!) Many families in our area are struggling with the high cost of living. Our families gratefully receive all baby items given by you. Many times we receive tearful phone calls from our moms asking that we let you know how appreciated your help is to their families. Need assistance? Wish to join our ST. These products will be used to make care-packets. We are collecting shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes small wash clothes. The donations can be placed in the PB&J Gang box. The St. Vincent de Paul Society Friends of the Poor Walk will be held on September 24th at Bethpage State Park. Come and help your neighbors in need. A retreat especially designed for persons who live with a serious illness is planned September 23rd, 24th, 25th, 2011 at Montfort Spirituality Center in Bay Shore, NY.
