6 Good News from St. Pius X/St. Leo School Hello from St. Pius X / St. Leo School, I am happy to say that we almost a full week of school this week. As many know, the weather over the past few weeks has caused some days where we had to close school. We are hoping that the weather starts to improve and we can get the students and staff back into the routine of full weeks and no random days off during the week. We here in the St. Pius X / St. Leo community are definitely asking St. Medard of Noyon, our Patron Saint of good weather and against bad weather. St. Medard of Noyon, pray for us. We are excited for this upcoming week because its Catholic School s Week! You probably even heard some of our students and staff speak about our school community this Sunday after our masses. We have lots of fun events this week, including Marian High School band, choir and orchestra performances, our annual Catholic School s Week Family Masses at St. Leo s on Wednesday and our 8 th grade All Catholic Schools Mass on Thursday at St. Cecilia Cathedral. Another fun event this week, will be our Drama Club performance of You re A Good Man Charlie Brown on Friday, February 2 nd at 8:45 am, 10:30 am or 7:00 pm and Saturday, February 3 rd at 7:00 pm. All are welcome and we hope to see you there! It was so great to see many of you at our Pre-Kindergarten Roundup event yesterday (Saturday, January 27 th ). The little ones are so excited for school. However, if you did miss the Pre-Kindergarten Roundup, that is alright as you can still register your 3 or 4 year olds for the school year! We offer pre-kindergarten for 3 and 4 year olds with the 4 year olds having an option for a full-day program as well as a full-day kindergarten program for your very young ones. We are a community of people who care about each other and work constantly to make our school a highly regarded place of learning. Our 3, 4 and 5-year-old classrooms focus on learning with hands-on and fun activities. We also offer flexible seating options that provide these young learners wiggle time to be engaged during instruction and growing academically and spiritually. If you know of any neighbors or friends that might be interested in our school, please invite them to attend the upcoming Kindergarten Roundup for their younger children or call the school office at if they have children for grades 1-8 to set up a time to come and visit. We would love to show you and your friends our wonderful school with student led tours and can even set up days where students can shadow for a day to experience a day-in-the-life of a St. Pius X / St. Leo student. PLEASE JOIN US FOR OUR KINDERGARTEN ROUNDUP ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 3rd, 2018 FROM 10:00am to11:30am. For: All present students ready to attend kindergarten in or new families interested in sending your child/ren to our school for kindergarten. You will visit the kindergarten teachers and classrooms, receive information from a kindergarten teacher and the principal, and receive registration papers for the next school year. Your child must be 5 years old by July 31, Where: St. Pius X / St. Leo School Park in the lot on the east side of our main building, the St. Pius X Church front parking lot. Come in the double doors on the east side of the school. We welcome all families to come to our roundup if you have young Children. We hope to see you on February 3rd, 2018! Laity in Liturgy January 28th Last week and this the scripture makes mention of many vocations and discusses the role of prophecy among servants of the Lord. More developed in the Gospel, Christ directly commands evil spirits this week and last week compels disciples to his service. How is God compelling each of us? The Mass and service to the church are such a peculiar and wonderful set of opportunities. Sometimes it s not so much a question of when or where you serve but that you serve. Even if only for a few moments. Everyone should feel the call to serve their fellow man in the name of Christ. If you don t have the time or vision to do something you count as great you can follow the theology of our two great Saints Therese and Theresa and do small things with great love. If you cannot give corporal or spiritual aid to your brothers and sisters out in the world, then please consider doing some small thing in the Mass. Perhaps your service is monthly, perhaps it is yearly, perhaps its during Mass, perhaps its in the sanctuary during the week. But do please consider the power, joy and freedom of Christ s call to follow him with purpose and destiny. Drew Neneman Entrance Antiphon Ps 106 (105): 47 Save us, O Lord our God! And gather us from the nations, to give thanks to your holy name, and make it our glory to praise you. Communion Antiphon Cf. Ps 31 (30): Let your face shine on your servant. Save me in your merciful love. O Lord, let me never be put to shame, for I call on you. 06 l St. Leo Catholic Church

9 In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman If we meet or hear someone who speaks with authority we pay attention. That person might be a teacher or someone in charge and our instinct is to believe and follow their lead. It is very unfortunate that many of those we listen to or follow are not speaking God s truth. Many people leave the Church because they fail to listen or refuse to listen to the truth. The deeper relationship we build with our Lord Jesus, the more the Holy Spirit guides us to that truth and helps us to discern what is good or evil. The people in our Gospel today recognize that Jesus is teaching with authority, but fail to comprehend the real truth that He is the Messiah, the Son of God. The demon, on the other hand, recognizes the real power and authority of Jesus. When evil begins to dominate a person s life to the point when it is confronted with God s truth it rebels and fights against anything that is from God. When a person recognizes and accepts the authority and truth that our Lord Jesus Christ is teaching us, evil flees and that person becomes a new creation in Christ. The devil or Satan knows who God is and is fighting in every way possible against God and wants to drag us down with him. It is our job as followers of Jesus Christ to make Him our priority in life; to accept His authority and to follow his teachings. Jesus calls us to allow the Holy Spirit to proclaim with authority God s truth to everyone we meet. St. Leo Knights of Columbus Soda Bread project begins next weekend. We need many hands to make this a success. If you are not already involved, contact Fred for details on how you can help.
