This week Christ teaches the faithful how to address the hypocrisy of a world which sets itself in opposition to the Church almost every day. With constancy and derision the manner of the world is to attack the hypocrisy of the Church. The logic itself in this assault is flawed. When the world around you attempts to view faith through purely mortal eyes, attempt to view man through a more heavenly optic. What a human is willing to do for another human out of compassion, charity and love cannot be made equal to what a person is willing to do for another person when motivated by society and equitability. Disasters, nature, sin and chance erode systems of egalitarian existence, but our all Loving Father in Heaven sublimely eradicates the difference with his grace. So give in society what to society you are due. But give to your fellows, your family and your Church give whatever you can. If that disparity causes you sacrifice, trust in faith that the Love of God will lift you to wholeness where the systems of the world could not. -Drew Neneman Entrance Antiphon To you I call; for you will surely heed me, O God; turn your ear to me; hear my words. Guard me as the apple of your eye; in the shadow of your wings protect me. Cf. Ps 17 (16): 6, 8 Communion Antiphon Behold, the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, who hope in his merciful love, to rescue their souls from death, to keep them alive in famine. Cf. Ps 33 (32): l St. Leo Catholic Church

9 In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman Do you know when God gives you or does something for you in your life? We often are oblivious that our Lord helps us and guides us in our lives even in our darkest moments. As we build our relationship with God we begin to realize when His grace and love is transforming our life into something more beautiful. Of course, our human nature is to try to repay those who help us, but how can we repay the Lord? In our Gospel today, the Pharisees and elders are trying to trick Jesus into saying something that can be held against him. They ask Him if it is lawful to pay taxes to Rome. Jesus asks for a Roman coin and asks them whose inscription is on the coin. They answer Caesar s. Jesus responds, "Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God." The question being, how do we repay God for his never ending love and mercy? The simple answer is that we can never repay the Lord for all he has done for us, but our goal in this life is to try to love our Lord as best we can. We begin this by trying our very best to love one another, even those who revile us and persecute us. To give of ourselves to others, that is to humbly regard others as more important than ourselves. We must try to live with one another being of the same heart and mind, united in our love of Jesus Christ. That would be a good start to express our thanksgiving to God. What our Lord wants from us is our full attention. He wants us to spend time with him in prayer and just listening to him speak to our heart. We can never out give our God, we can never repay Him, but we can take time to experience His love and thank Him for his many gifts.
