All are welcome. This week we have some great saints: St Monica and St Augustine. We have a St Monica group who prays in our chapel once a month for those who have left the Church. Monday is St. Monica. Her parents arranged her marriage to a man who was not a member of any church. When her children were born he would not allow them to be baptized. One of her sons is St Augustine. When St. Augustine was a young man he was not a practicing Catholic and was living an immoral life. This gave great distress to St. Monica. She prayed and fasted for her son that he would someday find God and be baptized. One day, St Augustine met the bishop of Milan and soon turned his life around. He was baptized at the age of 33 and became a priest and bishop by the age of 41. Monica is a great example of persistence with prayer. Some of you may have children that do not go church. Let us pray to St. Monica for her intercession. Let us all stay persistent with our prayer. Tuesday is the feast day of her son St Augustine. Have a great week. Fr Craig Join us for Alpha! 6 Good News from St. Pius X/St. Leo School "St. Pius X / St. Leo School is a diverse community forming students in the Catholic faith to excel in academics and service to others." Hello St. Pius X / St. Leo Community members, It has been a fantastic start to our 63rd school year at St. Pius X/ St. Leo school! It has been so fun to see all of the students smiling and laughing as they meet their new teachers, visit their past teachers and meet new friends. The beginning of the school year is always one of my most favorite parts of the school year and already we see that it is going to be a fantastic school year. This school year, we are excited to be a Common Sense Media certified school where our students will receive yearlong digital citizenship lessons. Common Sense Media is, according to their website the leading independent nonprofit organization dedicated to helping kids thrive in a world of media and technology. The program will help empower parents and teachers by providing innovative tools to help them harness the power of media and technology as a positive force in all kids lives. As we all know, our students are spending more and more of their time in front of screens and have lots of access to media that has a very large impact on their social and emotional development. The K-8 Common Sense Media Digital Citizenship Curriculum provides our school community lessons to help our students learn responsibly, be respectful to themselves and others and also help us continue to have safe learning environment for all of our learners in an ever-changing world. One of the crucial elements of this digital citizenship curriculum is that it is a community-wide approach that helps our school address the growing concerns that face our learners. The aim of this curriculum is to prepare our students to think critically using 21st-century skills, provide professional development for our teachers to facilitate our students to take ownership of their interactions with media and engage our community and families in our collected efforts. If you have any questions on this curriculum, please feel free to reach out to myself at the school as I would love to talk more about it with those who are curious. Thank you for your continued support for our students and sharing in the excitement of this new school year. We are blessed to have you apart of another school year and helping us in forming students in the Catholic faith to excel in academics and service to others." Thank you and God bless you all. Cory Sepich, Principal St. Pius X/St. Leo School If you have children in grades Pre- Kindergarten (3-year-old and 4- year-old programs) to Grade 8 that you are thinking about sending to our school for this school year, please call our school office at to set up a time to come and visit, and, then enroll your child/ren when you decide to come to our school. The St. Pius X / St. Leo School Spirit Wear Store is open just in time for back to school! Visit the school website, from August 13-August 26 to place your order online. Orders will be delivered to SPSL School by September 17. Questions to Michaela Smith: Lunch Menu Please visit and click on What s for Lunch for the new lunch menu 06 l St. Leo Catholic Church

9 In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman We make numerous decisions in our lives, and we just want to kick ourselves when we make a bad decision. If we allow the Lord to help us in our decisions, then things normally turn out all right. It seems like every time I do something without asking our Lord for help, my efforts fall short. We are turning away from the Lord when our own pride and stubbornness get in the way. As we continue in our gospel of John 6 today, we hear Jesus again teaching about that He is the bread of life. He also tells his followers they must eat his flesh and drink his blood. Some of his disciples said, This saying is too hard, who can accept it. They make a bad decision not to follow Jesus any longer because he had said this. Jesus is trying teach them and us that in following Him that will be the best decision of our lives. Our decision to follow Jesus will be difficult, because our lives are changed forever once we turn our lives over to Him. Our lives will be filled with joy and happiness, but also we will face persecution and rejection. We will learn to love as never before, but will also be hated because we believe in Him. The non-christian world will tell us your beliefs are too hard, who can accept it. As Christians we need to boldly cry out like Joshua, As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. And once we have accepted our Lord s teaching on Eucharist, then we have made the best decision of our life, to follow Him and become Holy. St. Leo Knights of Columbus NOTE! The opportunity to go online for information and to join the Knights of Columbus is now available and has already resulted in 2,216 new members. Please take time to direct Catholic men that you know to This allows them to get the information they need to make their personal decision on membership and to join online. In 2017 the Knights of Columbus donated $185.6 million and provided 75.6 million volunteer hours to charity and relief efforts worldwide.
