St. Leo Parish Festival September 9, 2018 Silent Auction Information We will be hosting a silent auction as part of our parish festival this year. We are looking for donations for our silent auction. Once again this year we will be asking for new items only. We would like to start gathering items during the summer. Some suggestions: -Theme Baskets: movie, spa, kid s theme, pampered chef, etc. -Sports items: jerseys, tickets, memorabilia, etc. -Gift certificates: restaurants, movies, stores, beauty services, etc. -If you have a favorite establishment you frequent and would like to request a silent auction donation from them, you can call the parish office and we can get you a formal request letter. Since this is a fundraiser for our parish, we would like to encourage donations worth $50 or higher. Gift certificates, however, can be in any denomination. If you would like to donate an item, you can drop it off at the office. We will have a form at the office for you to fill out when you drop your item off. Archdiocese Training Dates this fall for EMHCs and Lectors are: Sunday August St. Columbkille 1:30 PM Monday August St. Vincent De Paul 7:00 PM Tuesday August St. Leo 7:00 PM PLEASE ATTEND JUST ONE of these trainings, or 2 if you are being mandated in 2 ministries. AND you must attend the Mandation Mass Thursday August St. Cecilia s 7:00pm St. Leo the Great training is much simpler and offered more often. July and August Dates will be announced soon. So far you can train with us at 1 Pm August 17th after Noon Mass, or 1 Pm August 24th after Noon Mass. We are in need of a driver to deliver our Siena Francis House meal on the 1st Monday of each month. You would load the food (a larger car is helpful) from St. Leo and deliver it to the shelter located at 17th & Nicholas around 12noon on the first Monday of each month. Also needed: 4th Saturday of the month volunteers to make meatloaf or Au gratin potatoes. 8 Join us for our Summer Scripture Presentation July 19, 26 & August 2 Fr. Scott Hastings will be presenting A Walk through the Acts of the Apostles The presentation will be a discussion of this text, which spans the first three decades of the life of the Church, starting from the day of Pentecost. Young Adult News Staying Connected Young Adult Study Series will finish the series over the summer. Please Janet at janet@stleo.net if you wish to join. 9 In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman Who are we listening to? Our thinking, our actions, our lives are formed by what we hear and accept as good or bad. Most of the time our parents and friends influence what we believe. Teachers and leaders around us also help us develop how we interact with life. In all cases what we hear and accept can have very positive or very negative affect upon our lives. Since the beginning, God and Satan have been battling to get our attention. Who we listen to spiritually is critical. We don t often hear either of them directly speak to us, but God and Satan speak to us in many ways. God speaks to us in prayer, song, scripture and even nature. Satan often speaks to us through other people, media, and even those we trust and follow. This is where we need God s Holy Spirit to help us discern what is His Truth and who we should be listening to. Jesus in our Gospel is confronted by his relatives and clergy because they think Satan is working through Him. In reality they are the ones who Satan is working through. Their lack of faith is causing them to reject the Son of God and the Holy Spirit. So that is why I said, Who are we listening to. Each day we are confronted with lies and halftruths. The only way we can know what is correct is through the Holy Spirit. Our goal in life should be to get each other to heaven and the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. So are we listening to Jesus? Are we asking Him each day for the grace to hear His truth? St. Leo Knights of Columbus Calling All Knights!!
