Craig Dear Parishioners, We are half way through the season of Lent. The Fourth Sunday of Lent is also called Laetare Sunday. This gets its name from the opening antiphon of Mass, Rejoice O Jerusalem. This is a day we can be refreshed and encouraged to continue with our Lenten acts of prayer and penance. I encourage you to pray, especially our families. I ask all families to find time to eat together and pray together. If you haven t had a good Lent, begin now with a new heart and spirit. It is never too late to prepare ourselves for Easter. I invite all of our families who have children in Religious Education to come with their children Wednesday night. We are celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation. I will have 10 priests who will help with confessions. There will be a nice prayer service done by the kids and then everyone will have an opportunity to go to confession. It will be a great way to prepare for Easter. Our parish reconciliation services are April 3 at 1:30pm & April 4 at 7:00pm. Thursday there will be Mass at 7:00pm with the Archbishop to honor Altar Servers from across the city. Each parish is asked to pick six 8 th graders who have been faithful altar servers in the parish. The Serra club of Omaha honors them with a medal and a certificate. All are welcome to come to this Mass. Next Sunday is First Communion. Let s pray for those preparing to receive Jesus for the first time. We have recently had several funerals and funeral lunches. I d like to thank our funeral committee: the workers and the volunteers who bring food. Thank you for all that you have done for us and our grieving families. We could always use extra volunteers, so if you can help bring food or help serve, please contact Dina at the office: dina@stleo.net. Have a great week. Fr Craig Interested in Having Your Feet Washed on Holy Thursday? Every year for Holy Thursday, we ask for 12 volunteers (representing the 12 Apostles) to get their feet washed. If interested, please contact Drew at or drew@stleo.net. Our goal is to get a variety of parishioners to represent the community. 02 l St. Leo Catholic Church

Laity in Liturgy March 26, 2017 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults. Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. -excerpt of Psalm 19, attributed to King David Entrance Antiphon Rejoice, Jerusalem and all who love her. Be joyful all who were in mourning: exult and be satisfied at her consoling breast! cf. Isaiah 66: Communion Antiphon The Lord anointed my eyes: I went, I washed, I saw and I believed in God. 9 In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman I m sure most of us have driven or walked by some location and suddenly saw something we had never noticed before. It had been there since day one, but we failed to recognize its presence. A great many of us are also like that in our spiritual life. We are in a condition that is called spiritual blindness. We fail to see God s presence in our lives and fail to see His truth. We may think we understand our faith, but we fail see what God wants us to look at and hear. In today s first reading, Samuel has been called by God to anoint a new king, because Saul has failed to follow God s will. Samuel thinks one of Jesse s sons is perfect because he is perfect in appearance, but God says no. He tells Samuel, Not as man sees does God see, because man sees the appearance but the LORD looks into the heart. Samuel is told by God to select the youngest son David. In our Gospel today, Jesus cures a man born blind, but the Pharisees fail to see our Lord s divinity and glory of God at work right in front of them. The blind man has a greater understanding of God s grace than the spiritual leaders. Jesus came to open our hearts and minds to his LIGHT and to free us from spiritual blindness to the truth. He came so that we could see God s will in our life, and learn to follow His truth. This Lent we need to take off the spiritual blinders and ask God to help us to see the way He sees. We must follow what Saint Paul said in the second reading, Live as children of light, for light produces every kind of goodness and righteousness and truth. Try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. St. Leo Knights of Columbus Stleo.net/KoC/index.htm Congratulations to Eric Edquist who joined our Council this past weekend.
