Craig Today is the feast day of the Most Holy Trinity. It was Jesus who taught us about the Most Holy Trinity. Jesus spoke continually of his Father, calling him always by that name. Jesus also revealed that he is the Son, the only-begotten Son of that Father, equal to the Father. Finally Jesus promised to send a third Divine Person, the equal of himself and the Father, the Holy Spirit. We honor the Trinity every time we bless ourselves with the words, In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Please sign up after Mass or online to have your picture taken for our pictorial directory. We are doing pictures the third week of June and the middle of July. You can go to our website and you will see a link for the picture taking schedule. The picture taking is free and you will get a free picture and a free directory. Please mark your calendars for June 9 th and 10 th. We are having all the Masses that weekend outside to begin the kickoff of our 40 th anniversary of the parish. Forty years ago the parish was founded in June Please remember to bring a chair. Any parent of the school who would like to serve on the school board, please let me know. We meet the third Tuesday of the month starting in September. Next weekend we will have Deacon Jim Tardy from Catholic Cemeteries who will preach all the masses on Catholic funerals. Craig Free Sod Available Hello St. Leo Parishioners, my name is Joe Fuller and I am doing an Eagle Scout project on June 2nd at St. Leo Church. We will be adding a trail from the prayer garden around the Stations of Cross. During my project, we will have more than 1,000 feet of sod. If you need sod, feel free to come on June 2nd between 9 am and 2 pm by the garden to pick it up, first come first serve. 3 Memorial Day Prayer Dear God, On this day we remember the sacrifices made for us by those who were willing to give their lives to ensure that our own would be spent in freedom. Let us never forget to pray, not only for the dead, but also for those still living and working in the cause of freedom around the world. As we celebrate and enjoy this time, give comfort and grace to those men and women who have sacrificed so much for our sake. St. Martin, St. George and St. Joan of Arc: pray for the protection of our soldiers in their efforts, and bring them home safely at the end of their duties wherever that home may be. +Amen. Please Note: During the month of June and on July 2 and 9th, we will not be having masses on Monday mornings. We will offer communion services on those dates. Beginning July 16, our Monday morning masses will resume. Thank you. Beginning June 8 and continuing through August, the parish office will be closed on Fridays. We will be open Monday through Thursday 8:30am-5:00pm (closed for lunch from 12:30-1:30pm), but will close on Fridays during June, July and August. This will not affect Francis House Fridays. 5 #stleo40 St. Leo Parish turns 40 this year. We will kick off our year long celebration on the weekend of June 9th & 10th. That weekend, all of our Masses will be held outside in honor of our first Mass held here on the corner of102nd & Blondo. Our ground breaking Mass was the first time we celebrated Mass together on our future site of our Church. We ask everyone to bring a chair to Mass that weekend and we will have mini socials after each Mass. We hope you all can attend! #stleo40 Planners and Volunteers Needed! 6 Good News from St. Pius X/St. Leo School "St. Pius X / St. Leo School is a diverse community forming students in the Catholic faith to excel in academics and service to others." Hello St. Pius X / St. Leo Community members, Many years ago we were fortunate to have a St. Pius X parishioner establish a scholarship program to honor those graduating eighth graders who plan to attend a Catholic high school. These scholarships are determined by averaging the students seventh and eighth years' grades. Those receiving the scholarships have the top seven academic scholastic averages and are going on to a Catholic high school. The students from St. Pius X Parish who received these scholarships are as follows in ranking from the highest to the seventh highest: Jack Drew, Danielle Stolze, Sanaa Swait, John Burns, Elleiana Green, Elizabeth Monzu and Meghan Raabe. At the time of the establishment of this St. Pius X Parish Scholarship, we were thrilled that St. Leo the Great Parish decided to match this scholarship program. The students from St. Leo the Great Parish who are receiving these scholarships are as follows in ranking from the highest to the seventh highest: Megan Rozmajzl, Abigail Bluvas, Ethan Noon, Drew Jensen, Gianna Salerno, Parker Mooney and Abigail Wessling. So many of our students work so hard to gain high academic achievement. We are proud of all of them, but, special congratulations to these fourteen students! This year was the ninth year of another very special scholarship that is given annually by the Bernie and Pat Kobza Family. The Bernie Jackson 98 Memorial Scholarship is given to an 8th grade graduate who will be attending Creighton Prep High School the coming school year since Bernie Jackson was a 2002 graduate of Creighton Prep. This year it was given to Faisal Mohammed because of his positive attitude, excellent work ethic and caring approach to others. We are so thankful to the Kobzas for this wonderful scholarship in honor of their grandson. Special Note: The school office will be closed at different times during the summer. When our office is open, our office hours during the day will be 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM. with time off for lunch. It s always wise, during the summer to call ahead to make sure we are in the office at the particular time you d like to come. 9 In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman You see athletes do it after a great play, or before they start to compete. You do it when you begin your prayers, or when you enter the Church. You re taught the sign of the cross as a child, and It becomes second nature to you. However, have you been aware that each time you do it, you are confirming your belief in the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son and the Spirit? Today we celebrate that mystery called the Holy Trinity. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are three persons in One God. The Father and the Son are one, in total love and unity with each other and the Spirit is that never ending love between them. It is hard for our little minds to understand that the world and all we see in the universe was created by this love we call the Holy Trinity. The disciples were commissioned by Jesus to go and make disciples of all nations, and to baptize them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and to teach them to observe all that He commanded. This has been handed down over the centuries as part of our Tradition and is the basic building block of our faith. For centuries, theologians have pondered and attempted to explain this mystery called the Holy Trinity. So if you don t quite understand that s ok. As God s children we just need to allow the His Spirit to help us to understand what our heavenly God is trying to teach us, placing out total trust in Him. The most important thing we need to understand is our Lord is always with us until the end of the time. One can regularly pray the Prayer for Vocations or offer Holy Hours for vocations. There are also larger groups that support both seminarians and religious vocations, such as the Serra Club. If you can donate a box, jar or can, that would be great. Please note: We can only use soup that you can heat and eat. We cannot use any chicken broth or cream of mushroom soup.
