2 Page Two June 26, 2011 FROM THE DESK OF THE PASTOR GET READY FOR NOVEMBER 27TH. SING NOW! Some of us elderly Catholics have fond memories of the Corpus Christi procession in our childhood parishes. Especially me. I can t remember all of the details. But I can vividly remember what the overall scene looked like. The choir members, the altar servers, and the priests were all colorfully attired. As they walked along with the monstrance they sang Pange Linqua and Tantum Ergo. Such Eucharistic processions are not limited to Corpus Christi Sunday then or now. In fact, every Sunday during the Communion of the Mass we join in a Eucharistic procession, accompanied by Eucharistic hymns. The purpose of the procession to the front of the church is to celebrate the Holy Eucharist as the great sacrament of the death and resurrection of Jesus the Christ, the sacred means of our unity in His Body, the Church. The readings of this Mass are closely linked. In the Book of Deuteronomy Moses reminded his people about the generosity of God during their long trek in the desert. The Lord, your God, fed you with manna, a food unknown to you and your fathers, in order to show you that not by bread along does one live, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the Lord. Even though the reading from the tenth chapter of St. Paul s letter to the Corinthians is short, it sure does sum up for us our belief in the mysterious doctrine of the Eucharist. Brothers and sisters: the cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, are one Body, for we all partake of the same loaf. In the Gospel of St. John Jesus Himself explained it to us. Amen, Amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Our faith in the Eucharist requires us to have a procession at every Mass. But there is nothing more boring than a procession without singing. Singing together when we come up for Communion is the sign of our joyful union with each other in the Lord. But very few of our people in this wee bit of a church share in the singing of the Communion Hymn, or any other hymn for that matter. The singing and playing is left up to Pam and Pam, while the rest listen like they are being entertained, eliminating the concept of unity. We Catholics need to put the singing back into our Eucharistic processions. Do it. Sing! The Communion Hymn should begin as soon as the celebrant receives the Body and Blood of the Christ, even if we have to go back to the Pange Linqua. I know what you re thinking. It s hard to carry the hymnbook up in the Communion line. But there is no excuse for not singing in the pew. Singing is worshipping. And just remember this. Starting on the First Sunday of Advent of this year all of the prayers and hymns of the Mass will change. Time for a revival! On the night before He died, Jesus prayed that we all might be as one as He and His Father are one. Then He gave us the great gift of the Holy Eucharist, the sacrament of our oneness with Him and each other. The Church believes that this wonderful reality is something worth singing about together on our way to receive the Body and Blood of our Savior. GOD BLESS OUR PARISH, FR. ED GLEESON, PASTOR

PERSONALIZED GROTTO STONES Memorial Pathway The collection for St. James on the weekend of June 19th was $3, The number of June 19th Offertory Envelopes handed in the weekend of June 18th and June 19th was 145. The amount of money coming out of those envelopes was $2, which averages out to $20.63 per envelope. Our many thanks to the 145 contributing families. BLESS YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED AND VALUED SUPPORT. The Our Lady of the Forest Memorial Pathway leading through the grotto commemorates the intentions of many parishioners, families and friends of St. James parish. Space is still available. Orders for personalized grotto stones must be submitted by August 16th in order to have them done and installed sometime in September. Two sizes of blocks can be purchased. The 8 square blocks are available for $ each, and the 12 square blocks are available for $ each. Contact the rectory for order forms and to make payment.
