2 July 19, 2015 Page Two From the Desk of the Pastor Fiscal Year DON T FORGET:: NEW MASS SCHEDULE Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday: 8:15am Wednesday: 7:00pm & our new Friday evening: 6:00pm As the fiscal year comes to an end, here is a graft indicating the monthly totals for our Sunday parish collection over the last year and half. The two peaks are Easter in April and Christmas in December. Please prayerfully consider a Stewardship tithe in your gifts to St James. Our parish team runs a tight ship here and although taking care of this wonderful precious historical church is a labor of love in so many ways there are still many bills to pay. God bless everyone who helps keep it up. There will be the usual annual report published in our bulletin in the fall. Next Saturday, July 25th, is the feast of St. James. There will be a special Saturday morning Mass at 8:15am to celebrate our patron Saint. Fr. Koys will lead all comers on our own El Camino (The Way) hike through our precious forest preserve. Hike will begin in front of church at 9:45am and last for about 2-3 hours. Wear long pants and long sleeve shirts and bring Off and a water bottle. (Destination: The Manhattan Project burial site). Unlike Other Nations, Fr. Thomas Koys, M.A.,S.T.L., Pastor CHOOSING LIFE: This is the ultimate meaning of the Cross: not to seek life for oneself, but to give one's own life. "I command you this day, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his ordinances, then you shall live" (Dt 30: 16). At first sight we may not like this, but it is the way: the option for life and the option for God are identical. The Lord says so in St John's Gospel: "This is eternal life, that they know you" (Jn 17: 3). Human life is a relationship. It is only in a relationship, and not closed in on ourselves, that we can have life. And the fundamental relationship is the relationship with the Creator, or else other relations are fragile. Hence, it is essential to choose God. A world empty of God, a world that has forgotten God, loses life and relapses into a culture of death. Choosing life, taking the option for life, therefore, means first and foremost choosing the option of a relationship with God. Pope Benedict XVI, Meeting with Roman Clergy, March 2, 2006 NEW CENTER WILL OFFER STUDENTS CHANCE TO "DISCERN GOD'S LOVE FOR THEM?": OMAHA, Neb. (CNS) -- Erin Moore hopes to move in when the St. John Paul II Newman Center opens near the University of Nebraska at Omaha in fall "It will be nice to become a community, helping each other grow," said Moore, a junior at the state university who is already involved in campus ministry through the local MAVCatholic community and the Colorado-based Fellowship of Catholic University Students, known as FOCUS. Moore was among more than a dozen students who participated in the center's June 30 groundbreaking, along with Omaha Archbishop George J. Lucas; Lt. Gov. Mike Foley of Nebraska; the university's chancellor, John Christensen; and Chris Jerram, a member of the Omaha City Council. Archbishop Lucas blessed the grounds and the people involved with making a dream come to fruition -- a student center for Catholic worship, study and service. He also joined the students and others in turning shovels of dirt to ceremonially begin the work of building the $22 million center. The center will include apartment-style dorm rooms for 164 students of all faiths, an outdoor courtyard, library, commons area and chapel.

Please contact Anne Marie LaSota at or Why I go to Daily Mass By Tess Shore It seems every week someone will come up to me and ask me "Why do you go to Daily Mass?". I know that I am the youngest person in Church on most occasions. I get the comments from friends such as "You don't need a church to pray." Or my favorite comment of how can the priest be Jesus. You can talk to Jesus anywhere. Yes, they have valid points and I can quote Bible versus to them to make a point. Yet, somehow, my response to them is always the same. "It is a very personal question." However, I am willing to answer your question with the response of "Go thank Father Bob." My favorite part is always watching the face. What do you mean Thank Father? Where can I find this priest if I am at a different parish? To me the reason I go to Daily Mass changes just as much as I change my outfit (and I change into six outfits a day!) It can be to bring a friend's concern to the Lord or to pray for peace in the world. Whatever the reason I felt the need to go to Daily Mass, for me it is being a part of a community. It is watching the bread and wine be turned into the Body and Blood. It is about Christ being a present force in my day. Trust me, as a young person it can be frustrating to have the older people ask me why I am the only young person at Daily Mass. Then, to have my friends, question why I need to go can add to the frustration. Yes, Jesus would always disappear somewhere to pray to his Father. I can pray anywhere, but sometimes I just need to see the Jesus picture staring at me. Sometimes, I just want that sense of community. Sometimes, I just want to have my need fulfilled. Sometimes, I just want Father to plop down next to me and start talking about life. My friends are right. God is everywhere and present every minute of every second. Yet, walking into a church and making the Sign of the Cross with the Holy Water brings me a sense of calm. It forces me to think about the sacrifices Christ made for me. More importantly, it gives me a chance to bring the calmness into my own life. It allows me to really think about the Passion of our Lord and how Christ could really give us the almsgiving of Himself on Good Friday. To think that in all of his almsgiving, He gave the greatest gift of himself. I can pray anywhere, whether it is in the car going to work, in the grocery store, or on a run. However, I do not get my mind quiet enough to truly listen to what the Lord is saying to me. Church gives me that chance to quiet my thoughts, to allow God in, and gives me the ability to have a relationship with God. Most importantly, no matter what the struggle, I know that I can always find God staring back at me telling me to continue to have a zest for life. So, you will find me each morning in my daily seat. I will always be in the second to last pew bringing my intentions to my Lord and listening to what God needs from me. To the people who will continue to ask me why I go to Daily Mass knowing I am the only young person sitting in the church, "Go thank Father." JOHN PAUL II BY UKRAINE ARCHBISHOP MIECZYSŁAW MOKRZYKI Just a little background on Archbishop, Mieczysław Mokrzyki, who on July 16, 2007 was appointed coadjutor archbishop of Lviv and consecrated on September 29, 2007 by Pope Benedict XVI. He was one of six new Bishops consecrated on that day, the first consecrated by Pope Benedict after his election as Pope. October 21, 2008 he became Archbishop of Lviv. September 29, 2007 Archbishop Mieczysław Mokrzycki was honored by the president of Poland Lech Kaczyński with the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, for outstanding services to the Polish Church, working for the Poles in Ukraine.
