Parents who will be having a child baptized are required to attend one of the Baptism classes. Scheduled dates: Sept 16, 2011 and Nov. 18, Classes will be held at the Parish Center at 6:30pm. Please call the parish office, when you wish to schedule your class date. We recommend that you attend these classes during your pregnancy, before your baby is born. Baptisms are scheduled on the 2nd weekend of the month at Masses or other times by appointment. Dear Parishioners, I have been thinking of this column for a few weeks now and find it hard to write. The tenth anniversary of September 11, 2001 should raise inside me strong feelings of faith and patriotism. Yet as this anniversary approaches, I think of all of the anger, suspicion and even hatred that this event caused within our country and our world. The tragic events of that day will be remembered always and can never be justified or fully understood; but if after ten years we still have that anger, suspicion and hatred that were immediately present after the attack, we are letting this horrible act of violence color our present much more then it should. Our faith speaks of love and forgiveness, not hatred. In order to heal we need to seek the strength to forgive, to let go, to move on with love and compassion, not anger and suspicion. This is not for the sake of those who perpetrated this violence, but for our sake. If we let this anniversary renew the anger of that day, we give into the same feelings that motivated these individuals who perpetrated such violence against us. This anniversary should be a time that we remember and hold before God, those who were lost and all who have experienced the loss of their loved ones. But it should also be a time that we remember the hatred that motivated such events and try and eliminate that hatred from our hearts, so no such violence might happen again. This violence need not be the public and tragic level that September 11, 2001 was but the everyday violence that comes from hatred, intolerance, or bigotry. We do not accomplish this by some grand event but by each of us looking inside ourselves and letting go of hate and embracing the love and grace of God. This embrace of love will also lead to forgiveness of heart where we each no longer let the hatred that we feel dominate our lives, but allow the grace of God to replace it with love. As we remember this 10 th anniversary may we become an instrument for peace, love and forgiveness in a world that still holds onto violence, anger and hate all to much. In Christ, Fr. Before this time your little one was too small for her to feel. Although he/she swam with ease in his/her watery world, he/she needed to be big and strong enough to kick hard against the outside wall and dent it - - the inside wall of the uterus has little feeling. We are mid-way through the pregnancy now. Your prayers have helped your baby s mother continue with her pregnancy and seek the help she needs.

If you or anyone you know is interested in becoming Catholic, or is already baptized Catholic but needs to complete the Sacraments (namely First Eucharist and Confirmation), please contact Deacon Larry at extension 105. With that in mind, we at Sacred Heart - St. Patrick s parish offer the RCIA as a process instead of a program. The difference is that programs have a beginning and an ending. Processes are ongoing and allow for participants to seek out answers to their questions without fear of failing to meet pre-set time criteria Attendance at Mass is encouraged for all to become acquainted with the Catholic Church. 5 Community Events OPEN GRILL. Join your parish family members on Saturday, Sept. 24th at 6pm in the side yard by Fr. Bill s rectory. Family Life will provide the meat (off the grill) as well as the beverages and cake. Your part is to please bring a generous dish to share (salad, vegetable, etc.) and a lawn chair or blanket. The get-together will be hosted by the Family Life Committee. Please join us!!!!!!! The Fall General Assembly of the Eau Claire Deanery Council of Catholic Women will be on Monday, Oct. 3 at St. Olaf s Church. Registration begins at 6pm. Evening Prayer from Liturgy of the Hours, will begin at 6:30pm. Featured speaker for the evening is Sharon Biegel, DRE at St. Joseph s in Elk Mound. She encountered a life-threatening illness after the birth of her 5th child. Sharon has experienced true miracles in her life through the intercession of Mary, Help of Christians and St. Therese of Lisieux. All Catholic women are invited to attend. JOSEPH in Menomonie is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a Festival on Sept. 17 & 18. All activities are on the Parish gounds beginning with a Polka Mass at 4pm on Saturday, charcoal grilled pork from 4:30 to 7pm, live music 6-9pm, bingo from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Bishop Callaghan will have Mass at 10:15am on Sunday with activities to follow. Free admission and all are welcome! MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER WEEKEND is Oct in Eau Claire at America s Best Value Inn across from Sacred Heart Hospital. This is designed for couples of all ages and denominations who are interested in a closer relationship. Weekend begins Saturday at 7:45am with registration and closes on Sunday by 2:30pm.
